  1. Surely we much be top of the woodwork hitting league?!
  2. Definitely used as a derogatory term for gay women north of the Tyne too in the 80s/90s. No idea it was just a local thing either.
  3. Aye, that was just bizarre, he scored his first PL goal for his home town club in a crucial match for CL qualification, what did they expect?
  4. Just been perusing the match thread on their forum, they're an arrogant lot for a club that had never finished in the top half of the top division before last season.
  5. I was so convinced it was offside and going to be ruled out by VAR I didn't celebrate, I thought 'I'll wait for the VAR check' but it didn't happen just an odd gradual realisation that it wasn't going to be ruled off I got to celebrate properly not long after though
  6. I don't think that's correct, having read the PLs rules any transaction a club makes can be determined to be a associated party transaction and above fair market value.
  7. It wouldn't, any transaction the club makes of £1m or more has to be approved by the PL. And before anyone says 'well just sell 30 at £999,999', the PL still have the ability within the rules to determine that they are related party transactions at above fair market value, being below £1m just means they don't have to be pre-approved.
  8. Nope, all deals of £1m or more have to be approved by the PL.
  9. Maybe, but they did also cause us lots of problems running with the ball at our defence, particularly Bowen and Antonio.
  10. I though the score papered over some cracks, yeah we had some moments where we were magnificent but there was lots of sloppy play too and it was actually a pretty even match until the 4th goal and their heads dropped. Some of our play reminds me of England a bit, we're great when we're playing high intensity but when we try to slow it down and control a match and patiently build up we seem to lose focus, not quite as bad as England in that but it always makes me nervous when we start slowing down and passing it aimlessly between the back four when we're a goal or two up. Great result but on the balance of play it could easily have been a draw or loss. Don't get me wrong, I love this team and think we've got a great chance of finishing top 4 now, but I don't think it was an unreal performance and there are things we will need to improve on to make sure we get that top 4 place.
  11. It's not new information that the government wanted the premier league to approve the takeover, there was leaked stuff at the time about Boris Johnson getting involved and wanting it to go through. But the PL clearly had other interests, like the broadcasters and 'big 6', and ignored what the government wanted until the piracy stuff was resolved.
  12. Don't think we've been outplayed, it's been even end to end stuff.
  13. Fair enough if that's your personal experience, but I suppose if you're telling people you are a Newcastle fan they're much more likely to discuss it in relation to Newcastle. I just find the 'no one raises human rights in relation to F1, golf...' craic a bit grim, mackemesque even.

  15. I think Pope probably is too, he looked ready to just walk himself without waiting for the inevitable red, that somehow never came.
  16. With Burn at left back we've had one of the meanest defences in the league, our defensive record with Manquillo on the pitch is shocking. Burn is critical to our defensive setup because he enables it to essentially become a three and gives Trippier more freedom to attack. Maybe that has become a bit predictable and we need a different option, but Manquillo isn't that. He's shown time and time again he's not good enough to be anything but an emergency backup.
  17. Probably not a discussion for this part of the forum but... If that were the case then the government's current position would be absolutely no deterrent to those people as they would not be likely to have a valid asylum claim anyway. The only people possibly discouraged would be genuine refugees, most of whom would have no other way to claim asylum in this country.
  18. It's our best chance against them. Our issue recently has been that teams have realised we struggle to break down teams that sit back and hit us on the counter, even Man U did that to us, Man City won't. But, they're used to teams sitting back against them, they tend to struggle more with teams that take the game to them (although that can also result in those teams getting hammered).
  19. I don't think Yasir Al Rumayyan's appointment to the board was ever a specific issue. The PL's issue (confirmed in the letter published in the High Court case) was with PIF itself and requiring the Saudi state to go through the owners and directors test because of the state control of PIF. It seems that in the end the PL accepted assurances that the Saudi state would not interfere in the running of the club, not that they were separate, which they clearly are not. Al Rumayyan and this new director's position in the government makes no difference to that.
  20. Otherwise known as the Schrödinger's CAT argument.
  21. Unforgivable the way he spoiled the Wor Flags moment in the Spurs match after the takeover by talking all over Big River right at the point of the lyrics being quoted
  22. A think there would need to have been criminally fraudulent behaviour for that, I don't think that is being alleged.
  23. Not exactly, it's always been in the FFP rules that the PL could adjust related party transactions to fair market value in the FFP calculation when that is submitted each year, the new rules just require all sponsorship deals etc. over a certain value to be reported to and agreed by the PL so they can make that assessment before they are entered into.
