There is something about this season that is very hard to describe. When we finished 4th under SBR, it certainly didn't feel like it does right now over the summer of 2001; we bough Robert and Bellamy and it changed us into a title chasing side. (I am too young to remember 93-97 so I can't comment). I'm obviously not saying I think we'll finish top 4, the only point I'm (badly) trying to make is this does feel very different. If we can get a striker to compliment Wilson and an out and out winger...I don't see why top 6 isn't achievable.

I am feeling rather smug after so many Villa fans were boasting about how much better Gerrard was back in November. Especially when it was at a time that we couldn’t buy a win. Gerrard will be gone by Xmas.

Anyone else weird like me and would like us to win the LC first? Would obviously be an amazing feeling being our first trophy since ‘69. But then if we ever won an FA Cup after that - it would be an extra buzz. Obviously would be happy with anything But still…?

2008 v Man Utd was the last time I was super excited for a season opener. Drawing away to them under Keegan felt like the good times were back! A shame that feeling only lasted for 3 more weeks… It’s only take 14 years to get that feeling back! HTL!

Obviously it’s for effect saying half full. I’ll rephrase… 70-80% full. Bearing in mind FFP now also includes spending on infrastructure, I doubt the club would look to spend over £1bn on a new stadium when we could increase capacity to 60,000 at SJP for a smaller percentage of a stadium move. It ain’t going to happen.

Yes, I think 60,000 is about right and I’m sure it’s attainable. But the ridiculous comments about moving the ground to the Arena site and building a 80k seater just isn’t a good idea. I’ve missed out on a ST and I’d much rather never get into SJP again than have a half full Arena stadium every week - ask any West Ham fan what they think of moving and im sure they’d tell us to stay put.

Don’t want to come across as a PFM here. But I really like that our transfer strategy seems to be that we’re bringing in (or trying to) good young English players as well as the likes of Botman, Bruno etc. I think there’s a lot to be said for having a strong English/British cohort that understand the club/history/fans mixed alongside the ‘foreigners’. It just seems very different to the way City, Chelsea et al have done it for the last decade +
