In fairness to Villa fans, we did absolutely kick the shit out of them at SJP last season Joelinton should have been off. -

It’s amazing how much people are willing to just straight up lie to everyone and themselves in order to cope with something they don’t like -
In what way would Rafa at Wolves be ‘scary’?
-
Rafa’s just not an exciting name anymore, I imagine most fans look at a club like Brighton with De Zerbi and realise that there are just far more exciting options out there, and if those in charge are genuinely clued up a side like Leicester could be challenging for the CL as we are. That’s just very unlikely to happen under Rafa, the game has moved on from his glory days at Liverpool. Love the bloke but if I was a Leicester fan I would have been praying for someone like Vincent Kompany.

He has like a 65% win percentage from 17 league games I think. There’s still time but to be 6 points behind Tottenham, who are competing with us for 3rd still, is pretty crazy. Emery’s history suggests it’s not a fluke like. Edit: https://www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/aston-villa-unai-emery-results-form-premier-league-table-since-appointed/ He’s basically the Spanish Eddie Howe. -
They left the ground stunned as to what they had just witnessed. One man said to another, "I cannot believe what I have just witnessed."
-
I've no doubt there will be many times where they've given it, I don't think they've actually changed the rules or out on penalties (where context doesn't matter in that regard, a foul is a foul). I just think it's pretty clear that one of the things they take into consideration when reviewing VAR for challenges in the box is how dangerous a position the player was in. If Mitoma was through on goal and that happened it's given 100%, but that shouldn't matter.
-
The problem is the 'clear and obvious' nonsense and I fear Howard Webb is going to complete wrong way about trying to improve VAR by trying to make it less impactful - I think a lot of people wrongly believe this is the right way to go too because they're sick of VAR. You have to get rid of it pretty much completely though if that's the route you take, and they won't. The challenge on Mitoma is getting a lot of attention (and forced an apology) because it was accompanied by other decisions which went against Brighton, but it's no worse than what we've seen against Schar (Stones vs City / Adams vs Leeds), Fraser (Last season, Ederson vs City), even Jimenez (for Wolves against Pope) and Ronaldo (for Man Utd against Trippier) and many others. Mitoma not being in complete control of the ball will have been what swayed the decision (along with any unconscious bias). It's pretty obvious VARs have been instructed to look at things like that, and whether or not the player is moving into a threatening part of the penalty area when making these calls. It's stupid.

I really like Brentford as a team personally, Frank has done an incredible job tactically with them, although I'm not sure how long it will last without an injection of players and an evolution of how they play. They'll not continue to pick up outrageous results against the top sides like they have and teams relying on physical dominance rarely stay in the honeymoon phase for more than a season or two from the top of my head.
-
Great that, if we did it though there would be mass calls to ban it from the sport.
-
Probably nobody tbf I'm just inferring that the consensus from opposing fans was that we were robbed silly.
-
Aye but you’re still creating a situation with 2 of the best centre backs in the Premiership competing. It’s exactly what you want on paper but I don’t know if it’s as easy to pull off in reality. An ageing defender who’s lost his place in a good side I could see.
-
Dunk is great but CB isn’t a position you want to be willingly shifting about too much and they’re next to useless as subs for the most part. Either him or Schar would be sitting on the bench for most of the season. Signing a defender slightly past it I would get like, but Dunk isn’t near that stage yet.
-
These tables are useless Kaiz, what about if VAR doesn’t check a decision (or it isn’t obvious to whoever is tallying up these points that they have)? Do they get taken into consideration? I mean we saw VAR go miles out of their way to chalk off Anderson’s goal against Forrest, how many other goals like that have stood, and not even been noticed? It’s near impossible to calculate, but basically every marginal offside decision (many we won’t be aware of they’re that tight or just plain outrageous) now needs to be factored into the equation.
-
Just caught the highlights of the Brighton game, I think Mitona’s should be had all like, if not then the rules need readjusting as there’s too much leeway for controlling the ball with the top of your arm like that. The rest are ridiculous, VAR in it’s current form isn’t fit for use like, it benefited us yesterday though as Brighton are a better side than Tottenham and Man Utd.

Real Sociedad had our pants down with this deal.

His Chris Benoit style diving headers every other game are mad like, has he taken up sniffing fet?
-
Imagine the pair of them just riding you.
-
I like Longstaff but he’s the obvious one to be upgraded along with Burn like.
-
Aye it just means everyone has to sit deeper which goes against Howe’s gameplan. Someone in the side who’s job it is to pass to Bruno means that Bruno needs to come back and collect it, you’re better off just playing Bruno as a single pivot.

West Ham United 1-5 Newcastle United (05/04/2023)
Hanshithispantz replied to BlueStar's topic in Football
Basically the same goal as Liverpools second against us, where TAA was heralded as the second coming of christ for splitting our centre backs with a raker. Klopp had stitched Eddie up tactically and there were many amounts of jizz spewn about how clinical Liverpool were. West Ham’s defending was shite but the ball and run were inch perfect. -

Nee end product Maxi hoying another peach into the box. -
Your craic is absolutely lifting. To add (not to you because you constantly talk shite and I’ve no real interest in engaging further), Fulham are still in with a sniff of making Europe, a 4 game ban to their talisman pretty much ends that. It’s a massive punishment and acting as though it’s some slap on the wrist, and in no way a deterrent to the gigantic issue or referees being assaulted up and down the country is complete fiction.
-
You’re mixing up players surrounding the referee with players pushing and then screaming at a referee. I’m not sure how like as they’re clearly massively different.
