I was in the east stand today, amazing view but nowt of character or atmosphere of the Gallowgate.
-
Europa league this season for me, at the moment I just don’t see enough quality or consistency for CL.
-
Fair point but you know what I mean.

We need another main striker in the summer.

Newcastle United 0-2 Aston Villa (25/01/26) | post-match from pg. 52

I was sat in the East Stand with a last minute ticket. I thought they were better than us in reality, they shit housed their way through the match but they looked crisper on the ball, more incisive and took their chances at the end of the day. Without Bruno we lack a real heart to the team to drive us forward and that’s a concern. Gordon just doesn’t do enough for me and all told our wingers aren’t creative enough. I still have my concerns about either of our strikers leading the line too and we just aren’t clinical enough in general. It wasn’t a terrible performance, we just got done by the better team today. -
As a promoted team they’ve done pretty well to be fair. Sure there’s a massive reliance on Xhaka but they bought well and they’re been really solid at home. They’ll drop off second half of season as fatigue sets in and teams figure them out. I don’t see how they’re suddenly certs for relegation next season but it will be much harder for them. They’ll lose a few of their starters and have to re-invest again. We owe them one at st James, they only beat us due to an own goal ffs

Is he confirmed out or late fitness test?

Liverpool are nowt special at all. The only shame is we have two massive games before going to Anfield where we ca really put the pressure on them.
-
Haha class
-
How did he not score that
-
Agreed, I think we’ll probably bring in a defender
-
What you say about getting defenders now makes sense but it depends whether they are actually available now. Teams rarely keen to let players leave in Jan and it also means you often end up paying well over the odds too. I do think we need to bring in a defender though to provide cover as it would be a shame to come apart from the seems when we’re actually sitting in a pretty decent position in the table.

Newcastle United vs. Aston Villa: 25/1/26 @ 14:00 (Sky Sports)

Wissa and Barnes are two reasons I’m confident for Sunday. -
Feels like recently we’ve had no focal point in attack and been a bit blunt, Wissa missing chances and Woltemade not really fitting the system and looking at bit fatigued (understandably). There were signs vs PSV that Wissa’s getting back to close to his best fitness and he said as much after the match which will make a massive difference in upcoming matches (Fwiw I also think Woltemade will bag more goals too)

Two big losses for them even if we have Bruno out ourselves -

They won’t be looking forward to play us I don’t think going off that PSV performance. We looked really solid last night and Wissa is looking much sharper like he’s going to start scoring more goals. Midfield looking really good with Tonali looking more like his old self (Botman too in defence). They’re still a very good outfit though, should be a great match and atmosphere, might try for a last minute resale ticket. -
If it was that bad he’d have come straight off. Sometimes players can run it off. He walked off, I think he’ll be fine.
-
I like the lad, I think he’ll continue to improve as he gets used to the league. I’m still not convinced though that he works in a 433 though, he’s just not that type of player (at the moment anyway).
-
A system too rigid, a rigid midfield, wingers who can’t open teams up and strikers who aren’t clinical enough. It does feel like Howe either doesn’t know how to change it or is just stubborn. That being said as shit as it was with limited chances created if we were if we take one of our chances and win 1-0 then it doesn’t look half as bad. Problem is we don’t take our chances.
-
A striker of Isak’s quality means we probably win that 1-0 yesterday and that’s the difference sometimes. That being said we look terribly stale, completely devoid of ideas how to break a low block down. Not quite sure it was the game for Joslinton, why didn’t Ramsey start? Just feel like at the moment the poor transfer window is really showing itself combined with the likes of Wissa not looking sharp.
-
Agree on the wingers, bar Barnes they just aren’t producing enough.
-
Yes for different reasons Woltemade and Wissa probably aren’t good enough really.
