Obviously he's had great prep this summer compared to most but just thought he may get brought off more when in cruise control of matches to give him more rest. Tello definitley looked very calm and collected on the ball compared to usual, got his head up really well at times which he ahs lacked. Perch is a better footballer, that's without question. That does not mean to say he's a better RB. Perch is verasatile player and does a good job in filling in postions when needed. If Perch is better than Simpson i'm pretty confident Pardew would have found this out last year and dropped Simpson for Perch. Until he does, i'm all for Simpson at Rb till we sign someone with more quality.

The only ones I recall being roundly unpopular are McLeish and O'Leary (and even that was only his last year or so). MON got an awful lot of stick from some fans over certain issues, but I can honestly say, I have only ever met one or two people who actually wanted him sacked. Even I didn't want that, and I'm no fan of his "legacy". Other managers, like Atkinson, Gregory (with a few exceptions), Sir Brian Little, Sir Graham Taylor (mk 1 at least) were exceptionally popular. In other words, kind of like all fans - Villa fans will genuinely give someone a go, even if they're not fond of the appointment (and that genuinely happened with McLeish last year), but when they turn, they usually do so en masse. I'd probably say Little was the last one i remember where Villa fans were genuinely happy. Coming across McLeish, O’Neil, O’Leary, even Houiller was given a load of stick and he had only been in the job 5 minutes. I remember Gregory getting his fair share of stick. Seems like you have to go a fair way back before Villa actually accepted their own manager. The one i can mainly understand is McLeish by far, absolute disgrace that was.

I was quite suprised second half we had deployed cabaye deep and tiote pushing on forward. Tiote was rarely behind cabaye when in possesion of the ball. Wonder if this is a new tactic for the season. Thought cabaye had a very poor game, seemed way of the pace and it wasn't even a great pace to play at times.
