Really doesn’t matter who they get, you don’t save a club with that level of toxicity mid-season especially if the owners stay. Even if they left though, it’s too late to save them. I don’t have any concerns about him coming to us other than the fact his form has dropped this season but there are far more established players that lose their way under terrible managers and surrounded by poor players. It’s so toxic at Everton that I can understand why he’s dropped off. I thought he was their best player last season, I also think Howe would quickly get him playing at the peak of his current level and bring him on further. There are players out there that I’d far rather we went for but I’d be surprised if it goes wrong for him or us if he comes

I don’t knock it at all from the perspective of being a one-club player, it’s something to be admired if that’s what you want. That has way more value than a trophy in my book if you love the club that much. However, he desperately wanted out twice, did he not put in two transfer requests and they were blocked by Levy? I would have thought that would have damaged his relationship with the club but if not then fair play. You can tell with Shearer that it hasn’t bothered him that he didn’t win stuff with us but obviously he won the league with Blackburn so I don’t know if it would have been different if he didn’t have that
