    Hatem Ben Arfa

They should probably stop releasing pictures of him looking like Fatty McBurgermuncher then.

Or first home game of the season, new manager, new optimism, new more attacking tactics, most of their star players fit and healthy etc. Whereas if they are out of the title race later on they could just give up the later part of the season like last year like losing at home to Norwich etc. Christ I can't find positivity in anything Ours are better looking

I think he prefers the 4-2-3-1 because in his mind it's more defensively solid. You've got 2 DMs in there and the 3 tracking back behind the ball too. Unfortunately it leaves Cisse isolated up front and our side fairly toothless. If Jonas is one of the 3 then we have 8 out of 11 players whose primary role or quality is defence.
  5. Don't you think we ended up with a pretty fair offer, by media accounts? This one does sound like it's the other guys being twats from what we've heard.

I agree. We should drop the sympathiser one as well though. I agree. I think that's fair for both sides. Fucking Ian W sympathiser.

    Football pet hates

Loved Nobby. He could strike a ball so sweetly. I remember a goal he scored, I think it was against Villa, it dropped to him on the edge of the box and he just drilled it perfectly. After the match the Villa manager (either Gregory or O'Leary, can't remember) said something like 'I saw it dropping and just thought, not him, of all the players why did it drop to him?'.
  8. Other teams will be well jelle if we get him. I'll get my coat.
  9. I just posted it the way I see it. If it's negative then I make no apologies for that, that's just the way it is. It's close season and while other teams have done decent business we've done pretty much fuck all. I'm not going to shit rainbows for the sake of it.
  10. It's called reality. Unfortunately. When the footy starts hopefully we'll be in for a surprise. Howay man Bimpy. Its the same s**** in every thread. I've never seen nowt like it. I know there's some pessimism going into the new season but f*** me, I'm surprised some people can get up in the Morning (yes i'm looking at you ) We heard the same shite as this last season. Why don't you remind us how many days until the window closes?
  11. They wouldn't give us those options because the problem is the mentality of the team. If we had a top class left winger he'd be hamstrung by the fact that he would be picking up the ball 20 yards inside our own half due to the defensive mentality and set up of our play. I think we can all agree that Robert was superb for us, a real match winner and an exciting player with it and yet how often did he track back? A football team can't just be put together to nullify the opposition. You need players whose job is to get at your opponents and attack. A 5 man defensive unit with the players we have should be more than capable of holding their own against anything but the best opposition because they can't commit too many forward due to the threat of our strike force. Our cowardly, defensive tactics don't make us more solid, they end up putting us under pressure and trapping us in our own half with the only outlet being a lone forward 40 yards ahead of any other teammate.
  12. Wish I was in Hong Kong for it, would cheer me up no end, love the place. I don't mind bits of it but for the most part it gets on my tits. Too crowded and closed in and so fucking expensive.
  13. I'll be in Hong Kong for this one. Staying up for a 3am kick off to watch us get humped in an overpriced bar filled with glory hunting foreign fans. It's what dreams are made of.
  14. It's really happening again. That is absolutely pathetic.
  15. One thing that is concerning me a little is the effect our lack of recruitment may have on player morale. I had a feeling that part of the reason for our bad start to last season was that some of the senior players may have been unhappy that we did not take advantage of our position and strengthen the squad as was necessary at the time. I think the lack of ambition shown will have pissed off some of our purples who do have ambitions to play in top sides and in the premier competitions in europe. Hopefully the additions we made in January will mitigate that this season if indeed it was a factor last year.
  16. Yeah, that's a massive disappointment. We're all gutted.
  17. I think we'll get beat but as long as we give it a good go and try and play football we can take some positives from it. If we try and sit back and defend against this lot we'll get murdered though. When we played them at SJP and Toure got them in front we'd been in the game with them until that point because we'd been threatening them and giving them something to worry about.
  18. We'd have some proper depth up front at least and he's a different type of forward to the ones we currently have. We'd have options to change things up a bit.
  19. I agree. There's no need to make up quotes when the genuine ones are so much more ridiculous than anything we'd come up with. Spies and the Notting Hill carnival ffs

I really think we missed a good chance this summer as there were quite a few decent managers out of work / out of contract, all of whom would have been a massive upgrade on Pards. If we are going to stick with him I would have hoped to see some changes in the backroom staff to at least get our coaching up to scratch.
  21. For me, regardless of formation, we spend too much time working back. I'd like to see a front 3 who are real attackers, not just Cisse all on his lonesome up top while his support are 40 yards away down the pitch doing their defensive duties. We have 4 defenders and usually at least one defensive midfielder and they should be able to cope with what's getting thrown at us. Keep HBA and whoever plays on the left up there in or near the oppositions half ready to damage them. It's shocking when Ben Arfa picks up the ball 20 yards in our own half and the other outfield players apart from Cisse are around our penalty box.
  22. I don't get it? so you were there or you weren't? Just seen this. No I sadly missed out on that occasion as I hadn't quite moved to Boro yet but was told by someone who became a good (mutual) friend. I did witness him doing it later down the line in a Boro 'club' called Blue Lounge, though. Absolute Prick he is. A sceptic may look at this and assume you've fabricated these scenarios to suit your own agenda, wouldn't you agree? By someone with an agenda. It's quite sad that our estimations of the average footballer have sunk so low that it seems genuinely credible and not particularly surprising.
  23. "according to Qatar’s penal code, the penalty for gay sex is up to seven years in jail. The country’s Muslim population is also subject to Shariah, which punishes homosexual activity outside of marriage by death, and sexual acts by non-married people with flogging" Could be along time without a non homophobic-world cup after Brazil, shameful. I'm assuming they don't allow gay marriage so basically the penalty for homosexual activity is death. Bit harsh. This whole episode just illustrates what a circus FIFA has become.
  24. Saylor is a very scary looking man sometimes. Dilsh looks like he's cowied off his tits too.
