Is Mateta achievable? It's not much of a punt he has grown to be an excellent centre forward for Palace so I imagine he would cost an absolute bomb but don't know if time left on contract etc. I also wonder if he'd want to come to play second fiddle. I think we're more likely to sign someone up and coming again with a bit more risk attached. Mateta would be great but doubt it

Yes was stupidest thing about it Martinez had time enough to get back to goal tbh hojlund was never improvising a shot from there

Don't care what Glendenning thinks lol more that the rest of members of the pod just let him intimate that criticism and nobody contributed anything else or called him on it, don't mind some discussion and all, it just riled me cos it was nonsense. I will calm down and realise that every fan will always find whatever other fans saying to be wildly inaccurate, I just wish he wasn't called on to be the person explaining how our season went
-
thats completely fair honestly, think Wilson also on that pod would have been reasonable
-
That's fair, but i don't imagine clubs like to negotiate with a person who doesn't have much authority. Is Nickson able to do so?

Problem with Howe assuming all the power is just genuine workload surely. It's all very well but I can't be alone in looking jealously at how other clubs snap up players quickly early in window etc, snap up obscure talent for the future. I want someone working on that full time, Howe should have say and definitely veto fine but doesn't a totally great use of everyones time...

I know everyone else hates Football Weekly cos of Barry Glendenning, now i know i'm meant to hate all mackems, and he can be annoying, if he's not talking about us or anything else I have enjoyed his disdain for a lot of things etc, but still ofc would get rid.I know he's a weirdo too on social media and some weird stuff but hey ho dont really give a shit. (they also had on Johnathan Wilson another mackem but do like him). But I was genuinely really annoyed when Max Rushden threw to him to discuss Newcastle's finishing position, whereupon Glendenning just essentially says no us newcastle fans aren't delighted with the season as we all would be absolutely expectant of achieving champions league intimating we are a bunch of entitled twats who think the club should of course be finishing up here, despite selling 2 players and failing to reinforce at all. Cunt. Nobody challenged that reading of it. I don't really care when they slag off our ownership cos I also think saudi arabia are cunts and the ownership model of the league is all messed up, but I really don't think podcasts that are meant to be relatively unbiased look should be asking the mackem about newcastle fans...

I imagine Howe would walk if that happened

Really poor look for the club. What's the point of a sporting director that's only in for a year? And awful timing in terms of negotiating with other clubs, assume he's got a list of targets handed over at least, and now we need to bid before he takes that list to the next club.
-
I mean I do get the choice in terms of champions league footy still there etc etc, I don't actively resent him for it, i'm just still generally furious that Chelsea have got away with all kinds of blatant chicanery in the open to sign ridiculous players and us and a few others have been severely restricted in what we can sign...

the standing on hand thing i have to admit I didn't spot at time so arguably does redeem the refs call, but I think we'd all be upset to be on the receiving end of that. However, what Villa are brushing under the carpet was they came to a widely unfancied Man U team that no-one gave much of a chance of pulling anything out and they delivered an absolute stinker of a performance. Even before Martinez's dreadful challenge they were very poor and only Man U's quite frankly incredible skill at failing to put chances away left them with any chance of being in the game. Now Emery can brush this aside due to this controversy. Still think very unfortunate though, really impressed by Emery and this Villa team, clearly just Europe took a toll and tiredness caught up at end of season with some poor ends to cup runs. Would have much rather Chelsea missed out, but obviously very glad it helped us.

People actually moaning at Mitchell? Jesus wept. He definitely has to do better this window, teh Guehi saga was a little ridiculous, and clearly there were political rumblings behind the scenes. I think likely Howe felt vulnerable with Staverley leaving and the PSR mess meaning he couldn't improve the squad leaving him likely to get sacked if we underperformed this season. I even mooted at the time that I wouldn't be totally surprised if that turn of events happened. Things will have moved on though, Eddie's position is clearly stronger than ever. If they clash this summer and one is unhappy I suspect Mitchell will be the one in trouble, but nothing about the ownership suggests they are short termist in anything so I think everyone will act like adults and do their jobs and anything off will get blown out of proportion by some in media to have something to talk about while there's no football on...

Lured by the 80 year contract and chance never has to do anything but sit on a bench no doubt
-
Maybe, I do think more teams are quicker to launch it a bit from the defenders over any high press, but that would surely impact Bournemouth etc as well?
-
Just seen a chart in the Athletic of squads which make the most 'High Regains', i.e. winning the ball high up the pitch. Bournemouth at the top, not surprising Man U second? Not sure anyone noticed that Then it's Chelsea, Brentford, Spurs Arsenal and Man City We are all the way down near the bottom level with Ipswich and just behind Everton This sort of checks that I don't think we've been able to play the full ultra aggressive press that much this season to keep the squad fit but I am still surprised we are below average in the league for it. I wonder if it also reflects requirement to play a bit deeper with Dan Burn in defence so much. While no substantial injury crisis is welcome there have also been games (obviously last one most obvious) where we have definitely lacked the expected intensity

Good ball carrier for a counter attacking team. Feel he needs love and gametime to get to his best, he doesn't seem able to perform in 20 minute cameos and all his solid patches came after a run of starts in the side, and he's never going to get that again. Need to sell, lad did alright, one of the bright sparks of the 'brucey' years and played well for us in the first full Howe season but should be time for him to move on
-
He's a great player whom is so obnoxious no fan of another club will ever give him credit. He's been carrying that team for ages. I do wonder if he likes getting the best player in the team and would disappear in a system led team with others of his talent
-
Sigh. Just pointless.
-
Don't fucking jinx it you twat
-
Commentators saying both teams are below par, what are they talking about this is surely par for them
-
Man City absolute garbage, well deserved except for that absolutely wild decision not to send off henderson...
-
Yeah but man city are quite likely to go spend £500m this summer or something ridiculous and have a whole new team
-
As shit as doku is he at least is trying something, the amount of time man city players have wasted sideways passing....
-
Indeed. We are absolute cunts to play against which is one of the reasons we're where we are lets not forget. I dont think many opposition fans have great things to say about gordon, bruno or joelinton hah.
-
Man City have absolutely no plan to break this down, just pass it round the horseshoe shape forward and back...
