I still think younger cabaye was really really good. I think he declined quite quickly and as much as it hurt when he left he was already past his best and his Palace days he was just a clogger (i was in st james when he did the most blatent red card challenge on one of our players and ref ignored it, was ridiculous) Bruno is better, way more mobile and off the cuff but Cabs was really fucking good. when we finished 5th.

I'll have said this before but I was a bit concerned when we signed him he was a little gungho and tactically naive, couldn't be more wrong. Sorted the defense out immediately, and shown he has developed as a manager. Will be interesting to see when he has depth in the squad and the capability to play different ways what he does but he doesn't seem inflexible. I remember watching his tactical masterclass video about him beating chelsea with bournemouth and was going through his formation with a midfield of gosling nad an anonymous championship regen player and was like oh hell thats not the sort of midfield that will win you much but instead he's adapted to a proper 4-3-3 and focused on us keeping ball a lot more. We need to get more dangerous in front of goal but that will come with fit players etc etc.

yes but I think all teams lack a one of the greatest midfielders of an era in their team. Chelsea's decline of late can be matched with Kante's and he knitted together a squad that on paper looks madly disparate. I agree though on a defensive mid (and despite me being one of his vociferous critics Shelvey was upping his game end of last season and staying deep and doing the defensive hard yards, with all his fitness work hoped he would keep that up) but I definitely think we should prioritize a technical defensive mid rather than a destroyer. All our injuries we need to be able to slow down games and control them more.

<3 Rafa Still would love to have him involved in some way but I guess he is still after management positions. Everton was such a mess, and I still get so fucking annoyed about some of the discourse about his time with us. He was fucking brilliant for us in incredibly trying circumstances.
