I keep forgetting Rodgers managed two 5th place finishes with Leicester, (albeit 1 should have been a 4th place with a disasterous end of season iirc) which is actually very impressive. I still somehow struggle to be impressed by him. He is definitely on way out though, clearly unhappy with lack of transfers, owners looking to sell I read and a squad in need of a rebuild. I think he'd rather go now reputation somewhat intact than struggle for a few seasons until new investment comes in. If he wanted long term he would have sold Fofana nad Maddison by now and rebuilt squad with profits but I don't think he wants to.

We have missed that kind of ruthlessness lol

Don't man city always draw Dortmund somehow?

Hmm first choice I reckon may still be Wilson with Isak on the right. Plays that, hardly hurts Salah's scoring.

From the athletic: Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Newcastle’s chairman and governor of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), and the club’s ownership team were so enthralled by Saint-Maximin’s display that they requested an audience in the tunnel to bestow praise upon him. Think he may get that contract lol

I mean Miggy maaaaybe but no Joelinton...

I think the ideal balance would be a very technical passer alongside Bruno and Joelinton who would sit deeper. Shelvey did very well in this role but i still fear his normal decline in effort will set in when he's back from injury, and he is also very ambitious with his passing which can be good. Bruno I am happy sitting deeper and more defensive as a necessity but if he is freed to rampage forward more the better. I also think we have learnt how to play with high intensity very well, the next is we need to get better at slowing games down and just passing it around when we have a comfortable lead. Our players at the moment are more suited for full steam a head, a patient player behind would give us that plan b

Is he near end of contract? Confused why they would sell him

I wonder if the hierarchy in Italy have agreed and that is source saying deal done but club side they still don't want to sell and haven't received orders overriding that yet and thats the source for most the journos.

Actually getting a little annoyed about all the talk about where we can finish (the squad is way too thin for some of the really optimistic suggestions imo), can we just not care for now? This season is just about consolidating, can we have a really fun, no pressure season where we're not stressing every game about relegation for the first time in ages and just enjoy games like this? I would like a decent cup run too mind but I don't want to have the pressure and worry about where can we finish. It's been so long, we're not going to go down, lets have some fun for the first time in 20 years

Watching back De Bruyne's pass for Silva's equalizer is pure filth
-
There's Cole Palmer who gets some minutes now and then. Jack Harrison and Jadon Sancho would have got to the first team for any other premier league squad (unless Sancho's Man U form is permanent)

Got to love unnecessary signings, remember when Everton signed about 4 no 10s in one window

I was impressed by Tuchel, I know they were fragile last season but considering what was going on behind the scenes thought somewhat understandable. But I don't really understand what his teams are doing, I get he wants to dominate possession and isn't going for quite the high intensity of Liverpool. This has worked out in his favour, he won the champions league because he controlled the ball and defended well. The Lukaku debacle seemed predictable, I thought he'd still score plenty but Chelsea build up so patiently to the point of boredom. Now they have signed Sterling who I think will be excellent but he hasn't made use of a very deep bench of excellent players, I don't know what Havertz does and it basically seems to be play all the wingers and wide players and then no-one up top, and we will pass it around a lot till a wing back scores a pile driver. It's such a confusing job. Heard some Chelsea fans referring to him as a fraud and thought they were spoiled twats but starting to wonder what Tuchel's plan is now he has plenty of time to build the squad how he wants...
