What was he actually doing last night? He didn't seem to be dropping short or wanting the ball at all. People claim Colback hides but this guy took it to a new level last night, by hiding behind Barry all game. Pathetic.
-
It's going to be a £180 million black eye for him, and I can only hope that leads to him selling up a lot quicker. He could take this season's TV money out to pay off what the club 'owes' him and then put the For Sale sign up. Can see him sticking around atleast 2 seasons to see if we bounce back up. Can't see him spending big again any time soon however.

Was world class last night!

The only thing keeping me going at the moment is I'm not the one who has just spent 70m, about to miss out on atleast 100m and about to lose some major advertising revenue...

I honestly don't think he touched the ball more than 3 times. In fact I can barely remember seeing him.

He is so bad in front of goal but the team plays so much better when he is there
-
This is so good. A lot of CP fans blaming it on injuries to key players. Not too sure how that explains one goal all season between their strikers mind?
-
Do we? If we win tonight it's 100% in our own hands.
-
I suppose if he doesn't train it massively decreases his chances of getting injuried?

In terms of a January window it was about as good as it gets. So I'll give it a great 8/10. No chance we are pretty much building a new team in January. If we go down its because of poor investment in previous windows and certainly not this one. Shelvey brings some much needed creativity into midfield and perfectly replaces Cabaye. Townsend on the left will do well. We need someone who can stretch teams on that side, whilst Wij and Perez are clearly better players they are just not left wingers. Saivet is abit of an unknown and I feel he may take a while to adjust to the league, hopefully Tiote sticks around and we have a Shelvey- Tiote midfield with Colback and Saviet as back up. Doumbia is a great buy for me. A lot of people saying he is a poor player obviously haven't seen much of him. He was unreal at CSKA Moscow and I think he has the the 4th best goals per minute ratio in the Champions League. I seem to remember him destroying Man City within the last 2 years, so he's definitely capable of doing well in the PL. As for his time at Roma that is obviously slightly worrying but talking to a few Roma fans apparently he came in got injuried then went to the AFCON so never really settled. Players like Ighalo struggle in Spain and Italy but excel in the Premier league, I think Doumbia is of a similar ilk. Obviously we missed out on a LB and striker but as I said how many teams are buying 5-6 top quality players in January? I think we will survive without a LB. As for the striker position, with Shelvey and Townsend coming in, I think we will have enough goals from Mitro, Perez and Doumbia to just about keep us up. Especially with Wij, Townsend, Shelvey and hopefully Sissoko chipping in with a few.

The Managerial Merry Go Round™ - Ancelotti to Brazil

To be fair, who would sign for Villa in their current situation? -
Holding your phone is up there with Mitro's celebrations as a disgrace to football!
-
Maybe thinking outside the box abit, but can Debuchy not play LB? Might be worth it as a last resort.
-
So some Journo's saying we were encouraged to make a bid, other Journo's saying WBA are shocked at the bid. Tomorrow is going to be one massive headache.
-
Nah, he's good and better than anything else we have but unreal is a bit much. Although i'd jizz everywhere over any LB coming in tbh Weren't Real Madrid close to signing him before he went to Atletico Madrid? I do remember him being a key player for Benfica when they reached the Europa League final. I have heard he is unreal at crossing but his defending can be dodgy. Sounds good for Mitrovic either way.

Aparantley the Pato deal is off, doesn't look good striker-wise.
-
Think it shows how bad the investment has been over the last 3-4 years. After last season we pretty much needed 8-10 players. It also shows how bad our academy is.

Thats enough internet for me today

I must be in the minority in thinking this is a decent signing. We have undoubtly over paid but considering its January and we are in the bottom 3 we have little to no bargaining room. I know a few Spurs fans and they don't have a bad word to say about him (the Spurs forums seem to back this up), so I'm not too sure where these attitude problem rumours have come from? It seems like he burst onto the scene but hasn't really kicked on in the last 2 years, but how much game time has he actually had in this time? Given game time and reasonable guarantee of first team football he can grow in confidence and kick on. People are saying what is the plan, I think it's pretty obvious to be honest. Premier League experience a side, I think Townsend and Shelvey will connect well. Townsend will stretch the opponents defence and look to get in behind, and Shelvey has the ability to find him. We will then have the likes of Mitrovic (it wouldn't surprise me if we bring in another striker) and Wijnaldrum getting into the box. Very similar to Sissoko on the right hand side. Perez and Wijnaldrum whilst are far better players just aren't left wingers. He's not a world beater by any means but he's a decent Premier league winger, still with potential and can definitely improve the squad.

Is this going to be the Ross and Rachel transfer of the window?
-
Play offs . Why don't we just stick 10 minutes of adverts on every time the ball goals out, or fire glitter cannons into the crowd at half time for "entertainment purposes". Is this what it has come to? People not having the attention span to be able to watch a 38 game season? I despair.
-
Probably abit ate to the game but just realised this is their worst goals drought in 18 years. Sounds like a typical Pardew stat.

Think people are under estimating how talented Berahino is. He burst onto the scene at just 20 year old and was West Brom's best player by far. How many players can do that at such a young age? He's fast, good on the ball and can finish. He plays on the pitch above his years. There's obvious attitude problems but he still is young. Imagine earning a years wage in a week at the age of 21/22? I'm sure he will grow out of it, then we will have a player on our hands.
