If its inconsistency through lack of ability, I'd agree. But when its inconsistency through lack of effort, then I say get as much as we can, or let them rot in the reserves. Why should we let Sissoko, Wijnaldum or anyone of the others who showed a lack of bottle last season, go to another club for a pittance, where they might decide to put the effort in to match their ability?

Just back from Gran Canaria. I reckon their shirts outnumbered ours around 3:1 but the thing I did notice is that I didn't see anyone over the age of around 14 in a Newcastle shirt as opposed to every single person wearing one of their rags looking over the age of 40. Thing is, Townsend had a clause, so out of our hands. Wijnaldum and Sissoko clearly don't want to stay, so IMO, its arguably better to try and move them on for the maximum fee which can be reinvested, than force them to stay and potentially get sub-par performances if/when you play them... (see Coloccini). I'm not saying give them away, but I don't see the point keeping players who aren't prepared to buy into the 'project' and see the bigger picture, that this could be an exciting season, and (hopefully) just the one in a lower league.

I suppose like any player, if they don't want to be here, we should move them on and try and maximise the fee received. Coloccini is a prime example of a player wanting away, and his performances showing that.... though he was trying to engineer a free transfer! Wijnaldum had his moments last season, but too few overall, and nowt away from home. £25m is a great fee for him, and should allow us to bring (at least) one or two more decent players in, who want to play for us.
