Fwiw Covmag even though I don't agree with a lot of what you say you come across as a decent guy who just lets his emotions get the better of him a bit sometimes and gets wound up a bit too easily. Take a break and come back when you fancy it

Looking forward to this, hope Muto does well

Expected goals they’re way ahead of Liverpool though so no need for them to panic, they’re the best team in the league. I approve of this sentiment

For Joelinton, he still has pleeeenty of time but I'm not seeing enough there or any specific qualities which scream 'Oh if only he was in x position or x system he'd be great'.

This is not really directed/a dig at you, but I've seen this sort of thing creep in a lot. It's basically what Ashley wants, isn't it? The manager being the lightning rod for most of the anger towards the club, taking the majority of the heat for the problems ultimately caused by the ownership. Get half the fan base attacking the manager, half the fan base defending him, keep the attention over there until it becomes unsustainable then refresh and start again.

I can see how he'd be effective at the running from deep, so far we just haven't seen him be in a position to play many passes or crosses from those areas though so it's a bit of a mystery how well he'd get on from the sides, at least for me as I never saw him play before us apart from that YouTube video. Think he has the work rate for it anyway.

The sensible thing would just be Atsu in but I'd be intrigued to see Joelinton out wide, just to see if there's anything we're missing there

No, not even close. Christ knows what I saw then Have to admit I was also certain VAR was going to rule it out

Newcastle United vs Southampton Sunday 8th December (Kick Off 2pm No TV)
Marmoset replied to samptime29's topic in Football
I think from 9th down to 18th the teams are actually pretty even, depends on how they turn up on the day. -
Are the Longstaffs and Schar fully fit?
-
This has been obvious since day 1.no idea why we are persisting with this farce. Where should be playing in this team instead though? I like him but I'm not seeing what would make him much better on the right or left or further back.
-
People said he was a busted flush after Chelsea but he still had reasonable success at Man United the first two years in that he got them back in the champions league and won a couple of trophies along the way. They won't win the league of course but they could finally get a trophy.

One of those 'I thought he retired about 5 years ago' moments. Great, great player.
-
Actually contributed well yesterday when he came on.
-
I mean they were far forward, Yedlin usually is anyway and we've had a change of personnel down the left so it's not a direct comparison but yes they were further forward than they typically were last season.

Yeah he's been a big improvement, suits the role really well. -

Dummet would've got there -
Is he a good crosser of a ball? YouTube has some really good running with the ball from deep but not a lot of passing or crossing. Played into feet his link play has been nice at times this season, but I just can't picture him playing where Ayoze played or on the wing, based on these 10 games. For people who saw him in Germany and say he's not in his correct position, who would you compare him to? Like a Rashford/Martial coming in from the side type?
-
Rooney was great, a fading late career and some dislikeable things might colour some people's views but he was one of and at times the best player for a team winning just about everything going. He has very good goal stats but he was also a great all rounder, he had a lot more to his overall contribution than an Aguero for example.

I like Almiron and think there's a good player short on confidence and unhappy with the system there but we've had plenty of good players be evidently good under terrible managers, so I think at the end of the season we'll still have a decent idea of his quality despite Bruce. Cabaye, Ba, Remy, Ben Arfa, Colo (at times), Debuchy, perhaps to a lesser extent Gini and Sissoko and a few others were all able to clearly show their quality. Then we've had the 'Under the right manager/in the correct system' players like Anita, Cabella, Marveux, Santon, Shelvey possibly Mitrovic which sometimes rings true but sometimes just feels like a way of saying they have nice qualities but ultimately their overall game just isn't quite good enough. Think for Almiron, ASM and Joelinton we'll still be able to judge over time and if they've got the quality we hope they do they'll show it despite the 'system' they're unfortunately stuck in.
-
He's got a good touch and some nice things about his game but his finishing, specifically his heading looks a bit weak at this stage. Very early days of course mind and there's a fair few 30-40 million players around the league now plenty of who aren't exactly tearing it up.
-
Think the 'good defenders don't need to last ditch tackle or block' thing is a bit cliche, in a perfect game yeah but the reality is you aren't always going to be in a perfect position and your ability to recover when caught out is very important.
