  1. Two years ago we had newly promoted Forest at home. It was a very comfortable 2 nil victory with Forest not really able to lay a glove on us. I expect a very similar result.
  2. I'm a big Muphy fan and fully see him being an important part of the squad. However his style of play is a bit too one dimensional for him to be a regular starter and not be a bit of a weakness to the team as if you know he's going to start you can nullify him. In particular when teams sit back he can be totally ineffectual as he can't get behind the fullback and whip balls in which is one of his greatest strengths. He's a bit like Gillespie in that way.
  3. Guehi also looks to both partner Botman and our overall playing style really well. That's worth paying a premium for.
  4. This injury means he now surely leaves on a free next summer. On a positive note as others have mentioned when fit his strike rate is excellent. Those 10 or so goal could easily mean 3 places in the League, plus potentially European football. The League places alone would be worth almost 10 million. So him staying now we have another back up striker it far from a disaster.
  5. I'm not a fan of his style at all but that piece doesn't read like him at all. Very bizarre. Re: Caulkin, I think him moving to The Athletic ruined him for me. His style was refreshing and different when you would get one piece on Newcastle every couple of months. But I find it quite grating when you have an article a week. Also his celebrating not know tactics and statistics etc. also annoys me given sports writing, where this is part and parcel, is literally his job. You can choose not to focus on it but to celebrate your ignorance annoys me.
  6. 40. So close enough, well done.
  7. Hmmmmmm delicious nostalgia. I bet people will be able to guess my age from this. Given Trippier - Albert - Woodgate - Beresford Solano - Speed - Bruno - Ginola Sir Les - Shearer
  8. We should pull a Ratface on this one. Howe should go on live TV and say the taxpayer should pay for his transfer as if they did 3 out the 4 of England's backline for the next 5 years plus could be playing together week in week out for one club. Imagine what that would do for England's prospects of winning a something. He could call it the 'Great Defence of the North'.
  9. Given the circumstances (Wilson injured and no obvious suitors for him and a PSR limited budget) this looks like an excellent transfer in theory. Fingers crossed Howe can work his magic, which I feel confident he will, and we have picked up a gem for the next few years for what is peanuts for a striker these days.
  10. Nah, he's going for the baby Albert look and I am all for that personally.
  11. I bought some Storsint wine glass from IKEA the other week. One literally cracked while sitting untouched on the counter and another while being gently dried. Some people have crystalware, I have wilsonware.
  12. I still maintain he's perfect for the Saudi League. The less intense pace should help reduce injuries and he's still a big enough name to be attractive to them. It's less than 2 years since he was in the England squad for Qatar.
  13. Joey Barton has a lot to answer for. I read that list several times and thought "But Barton didn't sign until much later". I can't believe that gobshite made me temporarily forget one of my favourite players growing up! How could I allow that halfwitted bigot make me forget Warren 'Centre Parting' Barton! Wasn't he then most expensive defender ever for a time, £5 million sticks in my head.
  14. Yilmaz the Turkish right winger looks pretty rapid and aggressive. Two traits Howe loves.
  15. At the start and even halfway through last season I really wanted him to stay on and terrorise tired defences after he came on to replace the shiny new RW we bought. I felt would be a perfect squad player. Then he had his injury and he didn't seem the same player. It's the right time to move him (and a couple of others) on. I've supported Newcastle since I started following football in the 1992/93 season. Thinking back on all of those players in that time, I'd put him in my Legends of Newcastle squad, hell he might even start. Not because of his ability but because I love his energy, enthusiasm and general Miggyness.
  16. I can see his future. 2/3 years in Saudi in a pension boosting move. The an emotional return to Atlanta to see out the last couple years of his career. Farewell Miggy I'll miss everything about you (well except your right foot).
  17. I thought he had declared for Scotland, his Wiki says he has, but now you question it i'm not 100% sure.
  18. If his main position was anything other than RW I would be very happy with this. However as his main position is the weakest in our current squad and he looked a great prospect it does leave a bitter taste. I felt his signing showed real planning for the future with a more established RW signed and then the two of them pushing each other, while older players like Almiron and Murphy moved on.
  19. This is a real shame but as others have said perhaps the best for all parties. At us I feel his versatility would have always been a challenge to him fully developing. As he would be seen as a good back up option in too many positions but never being stand out good enough to nail down a regular starting role, resulting in him becoming a bit of a Jack of all trades but master of none. Hopefully at Forest there is a clear plan and position that suits him and he develops into a better player as a result. His injury this season really screwed his future with us. £35 million is pretty great business, even though I am sure there is some PSR shithousery going on, he wasn't even called up for the Scotland team fir the Euros. £35 million for a guy who doesn't make the Scotland squad, that's insane.
  20. It like Southgate is having a huge tournament long Biden-esq freeze.
  21. No changes? They keep saying Southgate will be out of the England job in 45 minutes if nothing changes. I think he'd be out of ANY footballing job in 45 minutes. So bad.
  22. Surely this and the reported £35 million fee for Anderson is just a case of a few clubs working together to get around FFP.
  23. He seems perfect for the Saudi league. Still a big name, he went to Qatar with England after all, so attractive to them. I don't think his injury record would be such an issue there either as the pace of the league is slower so he'd likely have fewer injuries. Kante was almost permanently injured for his last couple of seasons in the Premier League, he went to Saudi and he looks a player reborn in the Euros.
  24. Adams has impressed me this tournament, well except at doing anything vaguely threatening in front of goal. Good job he's not playing up front alone...
  25. Ok here's my final thoughts on what it still quietly to be transfer bollocks anyway. Our lot have heard on the wind that Everton will sell him on the cheap if the deal is done before the end of June, so the club has put in an offer. It'll be nowhere near the 35 million and is quite likely to be sub 20. As a sweetener for Everton they have offered Minteh on loan with a very low loan fee. Meanwhile later in the window Wilson is sold for about 10 million. If it all works out it could be considered a win win win for the club. They get a player who knows his place in the squad, while also offering something a bit different to the established number 1 striker. A hot prospect gets Premier League minutes. The money from Wilson (and saved here) is used to get that top quality RW and RCB the club is look for. Right that's enough fantasyland for me. I'm off Vampire hunting, as you all know the shortest night of the year are the safest for this.
