Yes and no. It's just different now. Sure he's not coming up again Shearer, Van Nistelrooy, Henry, Drogba etc, but he is up against far more elusive, tricky players which requires it's own set of attributes to defend against. Point taken though, there's certainly not the plethora of CF talent as in years gone by.

Thought he would end up at City to replace Gundogan. He's unreal, Thiago. Remember him playing as a false 9 for Spain U21, similar to what Fabregas done at Barca occasionally. He was absolutely unreal there.

Van Dijk is very close to that group, but as a central defender longevity counts for quite a lot imo, therefore I'd actually put all the players you mentioned ahead of him. He'll get there though. If I had to place Van Dijk in the present moment alongside anyone, it would be a small group of players just below that elite group you named, it would be with the likes of Ledley King, who was an outstanding player but never quite got there due to injuries. Van Dijk just needs a little more time...2-3 seasons performing and he'll surpass.

Could be but could be also that he’s been garbage in training and to be honest I saw him live at Leicester away and didn’t look like a prem standard player Yet a certain Swedish right back continues to get minutes. Krafth looks fine last 2 games. One of our better players yesterday, in fact. Which is strange if you look over the match thread where everyone though the opposite of this (bar the assist). The amount of times Shelvey played it to him in space, he ran up the line, faced a West Ham player, turned back round and played it to a centre back. He's a poor Paul Dummett. Bar the assist that was one of the key reasons we didn't lose...yeah let's ignore that He gave the ball away 20 plus times and didn't win a single tackle. If that's getting better he is fumaca standard Gayle hardly had a kick either. I'd play muto plus Bruce said he was the best player in training before the Sheffield utd game. Never been seen since Philipp Lahm-esque imho.

Perhaps a better player might have not wasted the other 12 crossing opportunities he had, or broke our attacks up by spinning round and playing the ball backwards? Ifs and buts, but I think he's trash. He didn't set the world alight, but he was solid and showed willingness to make good runs beyond. He wasn't trash, that's for sure. I'm pleased he's getting a run in the side and putting those early poor performances behind him and building a more solid foundation.

Up there with Dubravka & Saint-Maximin for value, for sure. I was pleased when we got him but didn't expect him to turn out to be such a crucial member of the team.

Miguel Almirón (now playing for Atlanta United)

That's 8 goals in 38 this season in all comps. Very pleased for him, absolutely deserves it -
Really good today, even without the goal considered.

Will the questions ring out tomorrow as to whether Klopp has taken these as far as he can? I'm not saying I will be asking those questions, but I wouldn't necessarily dismiss them as knee-jerk. Some sings have been there this season imo. Sounds odd given their dominance, but I seem to remember spells where they were very unimpressive in games and were pulling 1-0's out the bag late on. Definitely worth considering anyway.

He's amazing. When talking about ASM lately and ranking him amongst wingers in the league. Mahrez is certainly one of those I'd consider better. He's pretty deadly tbh.
-
Mings, Stones, Maguire all loads better than him like? At passing maybe, defending nah. Apart from against maybe half a dozen countries, you’d play those three you’ve listed over Lascelles imo. The number of games we play where we’re going to be under the cosh is minimal. Mings wouldn't be ahead of Dunk or Lascelles in any circumstances imo. Can only imagine it's because he plays for Villa or something as he's done nothing to warrant being ahead of the two mentioned. It's clear as day that they're both better than him.
-
I mean I wouldn't be looking for wholesale changes at CB like. Our group are mint and I like them all individually. Bringing one quality player in like Dunk would be enough imo.
-
I got laughed at for suggesting dunk as a target after the takeover. I think he’s quality and would certainly improve our options. He's mint. Fernandez is what, 31-32? With a year extension? Dunk would be a fine replacement for him.
-
Dunk is another one often overlooked, he's the ability to boss games at the back like Jamaal. If England are after good defenders, they're missing out big time with Lascelles & Dunk. I mean fucking Walker plays at CB for them, albeit on the right of a 3.

Mbappe, Griezmann, Dembele, Coman, Fekir, Lemar, Ikone are his competition. I'd argue he's not far off the bolded players level, and better than the italics ones. He's better as a winger than Griezmann too but left him bold as he plays more central for France and seems to do well. Imagine having to play against a team with Mbappe on the right and Saint-Maximin on the left with Benzema up top... Fekir is more of a 10 - Lemar has had a bad year - Dembele is always injured - there’s a chance you know I do like Lemar though, really gifted player imo. Putting ASM in the same bracket as those guys is already some feat given he plays for Newcastle United in 2020! Dembele though, plus Ikone... Saint-Maximin smokes those guys.
