I mean they're clearly not bothered, because otherwise they wouldn't write such things... However, it doesn't mean they a) should be free from consequence e.g ban their social media account, shame and ridicule their remarks b) should think their views are supported or the majority e.g show public support for the player from a majority

Abuse like this should never be normalised as part of an emotional fan reaction. It's got to be called out, condemned, and there should be consequences. There's also got to be a fan response of support. Singing for the player, positive social media messages, and in our case a flag if possible. Let these freaks know their behaviour is unacceptable.
