  1. Its on either the season video that year or the Back to the Top first part of the season video - Freddie Fletcher interview.
  2. Agree fully. Even fringe players like Guppy and Huckerby came into their own, just couldn't force their way into our team. Looking back its frigthening to see our relative spend. KK's first summer we spent the same as the mackems - we blitzed the league they nearly went down to the fhird and a third of Derby's who did nothing. 17 clubs spent the same or more. 93 11 clubs spent the same or more (including two in the league below us) - only two finished ahead 94 9 clubs - including West Ham, Everton, Man City, Chelsea and Sheffield Wed who were looking at relegation. Under the PLC though Dalglish still spent a fortune in a small space of time, yes he sold players, but we always had under Keegan too. Speed, Hamman, Tomasson, Solano, Anderrsson, Pistone, Guivarch, Griffin, Hamilton, Dabizas, Charvet, Serrant, Brady was rougly £33million in a year and a half
  3. Second only to Manchester United. Surprised me to learn recently we sold £8million worth of asics shirts from their release in May 93 until mid-December that same year, which I believe was a record and read a story where Spurs were laughed at claiming they could match the shirt sales we had with the first adidas kit. Have argued the same case elsewhere that when you look at what was spent - then what was made from player sales added to things like the tickets, bonds, shirt sales, merchandice it was a modest spend and nothing like Blackburn then or a Man City now. Because it went so well people forget we sold our top three goalscorers in the space of two years, Kelly/Peacock being replaced by Cole and Beardsley and Cole being replaced by Ferdinand and GIllespie. ffs we sold Ruel Fox for double what we paid for Ginola. KK deserves even more credit than he already gets for me in hindsight.
  4. "Showed great character" - to win a header, tackle, score a goal - did it really!!? I think Jesus Christ has a great chracter but I doubt he'd beat a professional defender to get on the end of a through pass, round the keeper and have the composure to steady himself and finish past the man on the line. Doesn't make him a sh*thead though.

Its like that Groundskeeper Willie - Skinner scene on the Simpson's "Brothers and sisters are naturally enemies, just like mackems and Morecambe, or mackems and Rotherham, or mackems and Coventry, or mackems and Portsmouth, or mackems and Charlton, or mackems and other mackems" "You mackems sure are a contentious people" "you just made an enemy for life, it was obviously mags"
  6. That goes for the East Stand roof, the entire club and its fanbase

Why are Cambridge fans more excited about an FA Cup 3rd round game against us than for their cup finals against sunderland I keep hearing about?
  8. Never lost to them in the dark days - 1-1, 0-2, 4-1, 0-3 Keegan said the 0-2 was his best since taking over very unlike Newcatle considering they were on the brink of promotion to the Premier League and we were fighting relegation, allied with their barbaric football and our pretty, softer stuff - had a stuffing all over it.
  9. David Kelly as half-time hero in honour of the last time we played Cambridge at home and he got that hat-trick after the fans demanded he get the spot kick - would be nice
  10. The old Newcastle United signage popped up during the 93/94 season. Like the redesigned dug-outs and tunnel - there was always something going on then...bit like now *by Wimbledon in late October - so between Sept/Oct 93, probably round about the time Euro'96 was awarded
  11. I don't like stadium sponsorship generally especially old stadiums, but after 10-20years of it I'm desensitised to a degree with us it was that it didn't benefit us in anyway and benefited a bloke deliberately hurting the club (what he made in sponsors is money the club was cost) - if SD sponsorship gave the club an advantage it would have been more tolerable, that it didn't and in fact was nothing but damaging to the club - was basically just defacing grafitti
  12. Need to get it sorted though, if were relying on it for Jan. Really need to start hearing deals all but done in the next few weeks for players coming in, can't afford to waste one game and countdown to the deadline.
  13. Would that be the Mike Walker team? What they did then is bring in Joe Royle and launch it to the big lads packing the box for set-plays, were basic, ugly, brutal to watch. Keegan described them as 'dogs of war' when they kicked lumps out of us and wasted time from the start. Sounds like a job for Bruce to me
  14. That's exactly why were doing it. Would just as soon them accept this is what football fans do but its the double standards that are being pointed out

They're such a big club that nobody cares. Mansfield, Oldham, slaughtered by Rotherham in the last month, so what. Yet Hereford and Southend live on.
  16. (*Everton fans) currently calling for the board to be sacked. The board that's spent half a billion pounds in five years. Reminds me of us wanting Ashley and McKeag out except for the ambition, half a billion pounds and not getting relegated.
  17. Its not the clubs that are being referred to but the fans.
  18. I'll tell you who they won't get or consider which is a shame cos I heard he loves toffees
  19. The other mackems throwing missiles on the pitch (luckily its allowed on Merseyside) and demanding more from a club that's spent £500million in 5years and moving to a new ground. Wait patiently for them to be described as deluded.
  20. People were speculating that his legs were gone as a reason for his non-appearances. Sometimes last night I felt like even if they were his football brain puts him ahead of Lascelles who is like a defenders body waiting for the brain transplant and Clark who was average at this level at best in his prime but is no on his way out.
  21. Bloke that was brought in for a one off championship season that's still here 5years later because of the joke of the way this club was ran. Same with Gayle, Lascelles and Darlow. Any club remotely trying would have replaced them all by now. He's been a decent servant and its not his fault he's still here. That'll be the moment though.
  22. I don't think were bringing in a new team that's top 10 caliber in January, if the PL even lets us do anything, so no chance for me. Dont even think we'll beat Burnley. Probably start winning a few when its more important to the other teams than us. They've got us by the balls at the moment knowing our desparation. Shot our bolt getting this delayed until October then fannying on with Bruce/Jones for a month while Rome burned. Teams were not better than have a points and fixture advantage. We didn't play badly against Brentford and Norwich by any means, its just we had to win but players that are only here because of Ashley's thieving cost us.
  23. Think we'll play different to the openess against Brentford, we went for that but don't know how to call it either way. A point being good this week could work in our favour as opposed to against us last week. Can't see a win but can't see what kind of loss or draw it will be. Fkn Norwich thougjh. I'm excited/dreading it.

I reckon we've hounded out four managers since 1991. Souness, McLaren, Bruce and Pardew (who left). Just suggests good taste and football understanding so the go-to is the made up Sir Bobby one based on a half-empty stadium for a lap of appreciation. If were going off half-empty stadiums, they've hounded out every manager they've ever had.
  25. That's right. Their way before Forguson was basically how they are now. Flatter to decieve despite spend in the league, not organised enough to challenge in the league, chance in the cups, managers coming and going.
