There are absolutely valid criticisms for this window, that's it. Nothing more, nothing less. For some reason it's become N-O lore to reframe normal behaviour into something more than what it actually is, then argue against it with that in mind rather than engage with what's actually happening.

This is just a ridiculous framing of it tbh. To suggest that being critical of what's happened in this transfer window is 'a crying mob demanding instant gratification' when Howe himself has admitted it's been shite is a deliberate misrepresentation of completely valid criticisms to try and disregard them as petty entitlement. No, but mainly because £45m for Gordon at his age and in his position is a pretty crowded price point. That was much nearer to 'the going rate' so to speak, whereas £70m for Marc Guehi as a CB represents a fee reserved for the very best defenders in the world, where's the ceiling from that point for him in terms of transfer fees? Not to mention that if we'd spent the entire transfer window upping and upping our bid for Gordon, never had an alternative, and not signed anyone else in any position, that context would be the thing the annoyed me more than anything. I think I mentioned this yesterday, but if we'd missed out on Guehi like we did Botman (ie having signed other players in the same window) the context is totally different, the fan reaction and the feeling about everything is totally different. It's that we've missed out on Guehi and not addressed any other positions that's galling.

Us all being united is something that has to be nutured, you can't just say we need to do it and it'll happen. With the best will in the world if the fans think you and the club have fucked up and left us weaker for it, the belief that's needed to drive it can't be faked.

What's the logic to it, do you think? I can't get my head around it at all that, on the face of it, the only position worth pursuing is CB and the only CB worth pursuing in that position is £70m Marc Guehi.

Yeah and spending it right can't just mean only having one £70m target centre back and all else is a waste of time. I just can't accept that, there's too much countering it for it to be a point that makes any sense.

Honestly, I just can't accept that tbh. I'm sure Guehi represents a big step forward for the starting XI, but by not doing anything we're not only resigning ourselves to not making any step forward at all, but jeopardising the steps forward we've already made. Even at a basic level it doesn't just seem stubborn, but also a huge 'can't see the wood for the trees' situation in about 3 different ways. I can't believe he would be this daft.
