  1. Pretty massive ‘apart from’ there. The integrity of the sport means clearly players can’t bet on it and especially can’t bet on their own games No one would care if he was down the casino, that it was on football games is the whole issue
  2. This is the FA…they are utterly inept

    England

I think this has to be the front 4, play the elite attackers in positions they are good in. Appreciate Foden preferred the middle but he can do LW well. madness to shift Bellingham back given his year so far. I fully expect Southgate to fuck it up though.
  4. He is a top player and was a big part of last years success
  5. Man City will prevent it impacting him on the pitch. Look at Walker with his messy private life. Clubs are good at protecting their stars from consequences. Foden will have been in the system for years and the squad discipline will be part of who he is As long as players stay off the booze and avoid anything that damages them physically they will be fine.
  6. It’s clearly a joke post that a few on here have fallen for
  7. By recent standards the bench is quite good! Murphy and Livramento are genuine options
  8. I hope he stays, this just underlines his abilities. If he leaves the club are now in a position to get a quality replacement however if we already have a top candidate better to keep him than start afresh. Maybe one for PIF to pick up the phone on. They can offer much more than Man Utd in terms of building things - e.g. run a multi club model
  9. Playing a midfield 3 means needing 5 decent CMs in every match day squad and at least 6 in the 25, plus youth players behind. Always at least one short this season, two following Tonalis suspension, so some of the impact of the injuries has been self inflicted IMO only RB, LW and GK have adequate cover. (I know there’s a drop off between Pope and Dubravka but at GK there will always be a difference between first and second choice as there’s no game time for no2s), but FFP means probably restricted to fixing CM and RW plus getting cover at CB and replacing any outgoings. Unless there’s a decent young CB in the club there is going to be a cover problem there at some point soon as Dummett must be nearing the Ritchie stage of being a footballer in name only, so that leaves only 4 including Burn
  10. Now have to keep it tight. Cannot concede so easily and win PL games
  11. Howe is unbelievably stubborn. It’s one reason for his success but it does have some massive downsides when games aren’t going well
  12. The league sounds great. I say do it! Have a CL that’s Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium and Netherlands and another that’s England, Italy, Germany, nordics Maybe a third for Eastern Europe and turkey then some mad playoffs between them Share the money more equally and ditch the bloated UCL that always ends up with the same teams at the end
  13. Yeah - FFP is deliberately designed to stop this, and any other form of owner financing. everything is set to revenue to protect the clubs that want to make profits from competition from owners who don’t. Setting a max 85% of revenue for clubs a) prevents smaller clubs competing with Man Utd / Liverpool b) allows their owners to make a profit ie protect the Glazers and Liverpool owners etc from ‘another Man City’ People hoping Man Utd or the like will seek to soften FFP are deluding themselves. If anything they’ll want to do the opposite
  14. Why bother? Training complex and other infrastructure doesn’t hit FFP
  15. Great news - what a bunch of doom mongers in here
  16. You should pop into the Wilson thread to hear about how now is the time to sell him…
  17. Given there doesn’t appear to be a RW ready for the first team about to sign Almiron can’t be allowed to leave - squad has enough holes in it without adding RW
  18. Hope they don’t go for Howe Presume Alonso will be their first target
  19. They have all the board meetings there, have no idea why
  20. And has he had any out of character blunders?
  21. The sales rumours only make sense if there are advanced talks for someone coming in. Almiron must have played every game this season. Wilson is a massive contributor. Losing either in January is hugely risky. Trippier to me looks like Bayern looking at Livramento come through, seeing Krafth is fit, the CL exit and the age and just thinking they might be tempted by an offer here and having a go, fair enough for them but I don’t see the club biting.
  22. There will always be tension between managers who want instant impact as no manager is ever further than 10 games from the sack and a DoF/committee who are working on a 5 year horizon. It’s fine, it’s a necessary tension. I would expect Howe to want proven experience so I’d bet he was all for Isak and Tonali, as well as v keen on Barnes, and probably a lot less keen on a 20 year old with one season in Ligue 1. Doubt it’s a nationality thing at all - just practical as shopping for PL experience means more British players.
  23. I thought he was good at the Times as the Times don’t have to churn out as much club specific material, so you get the good stories only - the Times doesn’t want to print 8 Nufc stories a week. At the Athletic you get these misty eyes stories about the colour of players sofa cushions as they need the volume, not just in print but for a podcast just on Newcastle so you get the good stories amongst piles of filler content i dont think it’s Caulkin specific I think it’s an issue with the athletic - as the whole site is full of aimless drivel
