  1. lol If you think Miggy can be coached out of some of annoying traits you’re set for disappointment. If it was possible either Rafa or Howe would have done it by now. Miggy has many many strengths, but his decision making has always been poor and nothing will change that.
  2. I can believe it, basically on numbers grounds, there are already 3 players in exile, and I doubt there be squad places for 3 RWs so that’s potentially a 4th player not contributing on the pitch. Dummett and Ritchie got released even though Howe would have liked to keep them, can’t just pile up players Also why I expect Dubs to be off, cannot keep 4/5 GKs

You aren’t going to get a PL finished product as a third choice, otherwise they’d be first or second choice somewhere else. The aim is to get someone with potential who will improve but in the meantime can ‘do a job’ in an injury crisis and regularly make an impact as a sub in the last 20 minutes of games. I reckon Osula will do that this season, and then hopefully he can kick in from there

Excepting the brief period of Isak, Wilson and Wood there haven’t been enough strikers on the books to even have backups.

He’d only start a string of games if Wilson and Isak were both out, and the options for 3rd choice are really a player coming to the very end or someone up and coming Like this guy. IMO this is the exact profile the squad needed. His aim should be to take his chances and swipe the second striker slot for next season.

Great to see. Sorts cover in the start of the season with Wilson out Depending on other incomings or outgoings potentially should look at a January loan. A bit like Kelly, this transfer is solving a squad weakness so really positive
  7. I am very petty so even if this was the bargain of the century I’d ignore
  8. Very good signing for the price and clubs circumstances at the time. One of those very rare smart pieces of business from the club in that era
  9. We’ve had so many rotters, hard to name them all. To be contrary Carr did alright in his first/second season, he just got injured too many times and was then kept way too long when it was clear he was done. If he’d gone after two years would just be remembered as injury prone but ok. Many many examples of this problem! Geremi was the slowest player I’ve ever seen, however when KK used that 433 he was effective. He wasn’t shite as much as totally immobile, when KK stuck him where he didn’t have to run it worked ok

    Marc Guehi

His agent will have done it already and if Palace are keen sellers they’ll have done it too. It was probably one of these two parties that leaked it. There’s basically a few days window now for other clubs to come in, whilst NUFC will be saying this bid is on the table for 72 hours (or whatever) to move it along
  11. Could be looking at other players or just building relationships with the agent “who is good on your books” etc. wining and dining with agents sounds a bit depressing but it’s part of the game now
  12. Some shocking players getting a mention. Carl Cort was shite, Diego Gavilan only made a few appearances and was totally anonymous in them, Bigirimana we all hoped he’d be decent but he was also shite except maybe one game. These are all obscure players, not decent ones!

    Marc Guehi

Well there probably won’t be any actual updates until Monday earliest and decent chance it’s another week before either it’s done or it collapses. By which point this thread will have 200 pages, so sorry you’re probably doomed with this request

Splitting hairs but you qualify for the CL with good PL players, you need CL standard players to thrive in the competition after you have qualified.

The Times reckons no one else will come in for him. However times also reckons palace want 70m. Not sure what the clubs limit will be.

They clearly need lessons is smart selling and par from some posters on here

If you get a CL level defender for 10 years then it’s worth it.
  18. Two bids all of a sudden. I speculated they might be lining up all the deals at once to make sure the budget worked, so that might mean there is another one at RW as well about to break (Or it could mean Guehi and Osula are the only two targets and if they sign its all the business done…)
  19. Totally agree. However there are now a lot of European places and many worse clubs have picked up trophies over the years. That’s the route from where the club is today to reducing that revenue gap Given Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd and Spurs rely on the CL, there’s always 2 of them going through a bust cycle when they miss out. That means there’s always a chance to run at 4th-7th, build the exposure, build the fan base, make more money. It is achievable
  20. The secret sauce is success on the pitch. ultimately regular European football and any trophy open up the commercial doors, I think missing out on the EC has been undervalued on here in terms of impact. In pitch success is how FSG got Liverpool back on track, after their previous American owners focussed too much on the P&L. The product is football, do that successfully and the cash will follow. Not the other way round.
  21. Lol I definitely too much time in this thread, but really doesn’t make much difference as long as players come in before the window shuts. As long as the business gets done, in a few months everyone will have forgotten how long it took. Yes ideally they join the squad early but At CB Schar and Burn will do the job and at RW Miggy and Murphy are decent. The first couple of games are also quite gentle by PL standards. It’s not actually urgent to make signings, even if it is important.
  22. Be bizarre to sell Gordon now the FFP pressure is off. Young, on a long contract, value will increase and most importantly delivers on the pitch and set to improve on the pitch. Honestly can’t see the football side of the management or the Saudi overlords thinking this is a good idea, be staggered if it happened. Liverpool are just having a bit of fun at Newcastle’s expense
  23. I think the Hall business was also/mainly about people getting fed up watching BDB at LB, rather than about Hall. Had Targett been fit then Hall might have gone a bit more under the radar. I hope having Kelly, Hall and Targett frees us from that misery this season!
  24. To me this window looks like the Isak window. In that summer the club had a look at loads of players, and there were plenty of rumours but the club didn’t seem to view the fees as appropriate. In the end they went back to Isak as even though he had a bigger fee than they really wanted to pay, he actually represented value at that fee - better to spend 60m on a 60m player, than 40m on a 20m player. Olise was viewed as worth it and the bid went in. IMO the club are still looking for a RW available at a fair fee for the ability. Some selling clubs might get realistic with pricing in August and we might have to wait until then for a RW.
