Yeah I agree with that, but there are always transfers you look at on paper at the start of the season as impressive that ultimately fail and there will be teams again that fail. My main worry is that you should always freshen things up each season. So even one new big signing now would at least freshen things up a bit,

Ideally you want them in at the start of the transfer window but so many factors are in play here. Our main problem has been that we haven't been able to shift anyone, I imagine the club wanted to get a few out by now so they know how much they can spend on the few players they want to buy, remember it is quality not quantity this year and we wouldn't want to settle on a weaker RW and then manage to raise some funds and free up wages that meant we could maybe go for someone that we perhaps wanted more. There are plenty of other teams that have either not done much or are just starting to do more now, I am sure we will see some activity at Newcastle over the next two weeks and we will all end up happy come two weeks or so time.
-
Even if this is the case, I am confident we still have enough to potentially challenge for top five which is hopefully CL. If we can get a CB and a RW in then of course we will look even better for it, but lets not dismiss how good our team is already.

My main issue with Almiron is that we should have sold him last summer when his stock was at its highest, we need to shift players before the decline and I think most fans knew that last season was unlikely to be as good as the season before. Clearly we aren't trying to push our luck with transfers to Saudi teams, which is very frustrating, but if we did we could have sold him to to Saudi league last summer for £25m and no questions would have been asked after the season he had. Now we could be stuck with him and Murphy for another year when every other position at the club has been strengthened significantly since the takeover.

Sounds to me like we have put a ‘final’ bid in and he’s not happy that we are short of the valuation so is putting public pressure on. Now a case of either who blinks first or do we get pissed off and just move on to other targets
-
Surely they won't sell Guehi and Andersen either. Can see Fulham's next bid for Andersen being accepted.
-
Yeah, if it happened you would assume it would be Guehi LCB and Schar RCB for now. Then slowly Botman would replace Shar and it would be Botman LCB and Guehi RCB

We definitely need a new right winger. However, we scored enough goals last season to get Champions League, it was the defence that let us down. If we can score similar to last year and with Pope returning and a potentially top signing like Guehi comes in then there is no reason why we can't get CL, so I think this is the best move.

Having him and Romana on tweet alert is amusing, Romana usually tweets the exact same thing within 5 minutes.

Well that blows away the theory that we have no money, they will want at least £50m you would imagine.

So nice having some exciting players that could come in to the squad and make a difference. Add Sanusi, Hernes and the many Miley's to this list and we might actually start to see some benefits in the long term.

Happy with this. Seems to have every attribute to succeed as a striker in the prem. He’s big, quick and can finish (youth level). Just needs some time and coaching to transfer that to senior level but playing for a team like us that creates a lot of chances compared to 10-20 minutes per game for one of the worst ever PL teams should hopefully help him develop.
-
We have got where we are today by being ‘perfectionists’. One mistake in the transfer window can be catastrophic for us, we need pretty much all our transfers to be perfect if we want to compete thanks to PSR.
-
If he was available on loan I would be happy with that. There doesn't seem to be many obvious players available that could come in on the right wing for us so may be best to get someone in temporarily now and look again next season when there could be better options available permanently.
-
Obviously never going to happen but would people take him on a straight loan as our main man for RW? Fill the gap for a year and then look again next summer?
-
I was just disagreeing with the world class part, of course at £50M you should be getting a 'real player', but at the same time Chelsea have spent ridiculous money on three central midfielders who you wouldn't say are anywhere near world class (Enzo, Caicedo and Lavia), then you have the likes of Ugarte, Onana, Fred, Keita, Ndombele and Nunes that all went for similar fees over the years which shows that, at times, £50m doesn't get you much.
-
Of course the jury is still out but £55m doesn't buy world class anymore, it buys very good players that have the potential to be world class. I think he showed his capabilities in the Villa game and glimpses in some other games. He has trained with the team for over a year now, looks to be in great shape and doesn't have the burden of his addiction hanging over him now, I am confident he will have a great season.
-
Just seen that Keith Downie replied to someone on twitter stating that "The constant message is there isn't a huge amount of money to spend" and that he thinks we will sign two players (RW & CB).
-
Gakpo is a risk in terms of will he play much and where will he play. Petrovic is out of favour at Chelsea, Sanchez is first choice but they are signing some young lad for £20m so he may well become first choice.
-
Who is going to buy Wilson on the wages he is on and actually give us a decent fee? He is injured again and missing the start of the season.
-
I quite like my midfield but think I will have to squeeze him in somewhere.
-
We have improved from last season massively already. Tonali, Joelinton, Barnes, Pope etc. all being available (yes of course injuries could happen again). Add to that players like Hall and Tino who are now more established and Isak hopefully being available for the majority of the season. Kelly is a fairly solid signing that will improve our depth and we have over a month to get a couple more in. My guess is that there is money to spend (see Olise bid) but if we sell Almiron as hoped then we want to add that to the cost for a right winger instead of panicking now and getting someone that we maybe don't particularly want further down the line. Trust the club, they have done nothing since coming in to not warrant the fans trust. We would have probably got CL last year if we had less injuries and they are rightly after quality not quantity this window and that can take time.
-
Thought his cross for Isak's header was pretty good and he did really well as part of a team move that saw Isak have a blocked shot early in the second half. Highly doubt he will do anything at Newcastle but if he continues hopefully someone took notice and it might mean we can actually get him a move this summer.
