STM
I agree with Dave on Cisse but I think his future might be over. So: Krul Janmaat Mbemba Dummett Haidara Anita Wijnaldum Sissoko De Jong Aarons Mitrovic
Yorkie
I think Sissoko can probably be worth a place on the right-wing when hesnot sharing the midfield with carthorses like Colback and Gouffran. With Wijnaldum, De Jong and Aarons, he wouldn't be the solitary driving force from the middle.
STM
I think the wing suits him better. He struggles with the quick footwork required in the centre. Down the flank he gets the chance to isolate his fullback, which means he will win alot of duals because of his pace. With Janmaat there he isn't restricted to staying out wide. If De Jong/Wijnaldum pick up knocks we can move him in field if necessary.
U2
Krul Janmaat x x Haidara Wijnaldum Colback Sissoko de Jong x x Based on the game time I've seen so far, I figure those players are certain to start against Southampton. Hopefully Aarons is the 3rd of the attacking midfielders.
Dave
Embarrassingly, Cisse is the only player we've got that we know can score regularly in the Premier League. Irrespective of the quality of service, until he is sold (or the new lad starts firing them in) I find it a bit odd that we'd leave him out. We're looking at a complete overhaul in how well we play and create as a team before we're confident enough we can cope without a striker like him. Bit optimistic that IMO. Southampton didn't have a proven Premier League goalscorer this time last year (I don't think...I may have missed someone obvious), but their new manager trusted himself and his signings/philosophies and had a brilliant season. They were already and continue to be light years ahead of us in terms of actual football played though, that's my point.

Not many outside the top 5-6 spend £13m on someone who's not going to be starting games and I think De Jong behind him with Aarons on the left-wing and Ayoze in from the right fits better than partnering someone whose touch and in-game intelligence blows hot & cold. TRC
Don't like Sissoko on the wing, rather we signed a propper winger. Not sure how Ayoze will fit in, cover for De Jong?

Hopefully Aarons is the 3rd of the attacking midfielders. And with this we're still forgetting players like Anita, Perez and Abeid who I all think have a part to play this season. And of course Mitro, who is almost guaranteed to start, the radgie bastard. Once we get the defense sorted, I don't think we're that far off.
Village Idiot
Don't like Sissoko on the wing, rather we signed a propper winger. Not sure how Ayoze will fit in, cover for De Jong? Left wing cutting inside. He did that back in Spain, but if Mitrovic expects crosses he won't be getting many.
U2
Ben Arfa played as an inverted winger for most of his time with us yet he was more than capable and willing to put a cross in. Ayoze has the capability to add that into his game if he starts to specialise on the left side of attack.
Village Idiot
He is right footed and comes from a football culture were forwards aren't expected to put high crosses in.
Beren
Within the realms of possibility (ie. with Colback definitely as a starter), I'd like to see: Krul Janmaat Colo Mbemba Haidara Colback Sissoko Wijnaldum De Jong Perez Mitrovic Perez is a better footballer than Cisse and will contribute more to the creativity of the team, and Mitrovic seems to know the onion bag well as being stronger than a pre-pubescent Hugo Viana - something which Cisse can't say for himself. Improve the defence and find a way for Aarons to play and thats a canny side(even with Colback)
Beren
Rotating Aarons/De Jong may not be a bad idea. Especially as both seem to have had an injury-prone start to their careers here.

Not sure its worth the risk seeing if he can reverse his decline for the sake of that.

I would even accept Zouma on loan despite hating those deals with a passion.
Shays Given Tim Flowers
Hopefully McClaren will actually look at developing some sort of culture at the club. Pardew felt very much like a first XI kinda guy.

I tend to like this formation. I would like a little more spine than Colback at the holding spot though. Maybe Tiote can be revitalized and just play as an anchorman. I'm just praying McLaren will bring more order to our approach. Good defense, transitory and offensive theory can go a long way with this lot. Had these signing been made with Pards or Charver I would have felt they were bought and tossed into a black hole. I actually believe that McLaren can use them. Mole_Toonfan
The diamond works on PES Not exactly sure how it would work irl though, I'm a bit conflicted on it.
Guest Roger Kint
The diamond works on PES Not exactly sure how it would work irl though, I'm a bit conflicted on it. Basically needs Perez and one of Win/Siss to provide the width so unless you decide not to cover the fullbacks it works out as a 4-3-3 variation anyway imo. Definitely a gamer formation rather than a practical one for the majority of sides.
