He put himself about and looked okay early on but I just remember him getting that hamstring injury and then after that he struggled to stay fit for any sustained period of time.

Could have been a UN diplomat there… wonder how long it stayed in the garage until his wife got rid or telt him to take it on a tip run.

Has vibes of the That's Life stuffed cat - 11-year-old me couldn't breathe when they unveiled that:

Just remember him with a Batman mask on at the Xmas party. His biggest contribution was being a wingman to the Brat Pack and his wife giving it the “Do you know who I am?” spiel in Kingston Park Tesco.

I would say that we were a team on the decline, and a momentum like that is difficult to turn round. Sir Bob did that, and more.

It's extraordinary that so many supporters turned against him and he was sacked after three successive top five finishes. We paid a heavy price for that. The detailed story of those events would make an interesting read.

"So many" is a bit much, would have been less than about 5% if that. Was more a case of would rather sack some of the players but you cant and Sir Bobby was leaving at the end of that season anyway but was no calls, chants or any turning against from memory and I've seen no evidence for it since.

Its always just that the ground was half-empty for a walk around after Wolves but it was half empty for a walk around after Villa in 01 too.

The problem wasn’t getting rid of Robson - I do think his race was run and things had got a bit stale - it was how cack handed Shepherd managed the entire situation.

Cut his knees off from under him with the whole ‘last year’ shite and then when he finally had the bottle to sack him he had a shortlist of one manager who was available, willing and (most importantly for Freddie) British.

I think it's very hard to assess any of Robson's failings without factoring in the dogshit management and undermining behaviour of the board for much of his time here.

That is true. The fee didn’t help when in same window. Arsenal signed Pires for 6m, Leeds signed Viduka for the same & Chelsea got Gudjohnsen for around 4m.

Keegan, Robson and Howe have all been backed in the transfer market, so you can't really hold that against any of them when comparing them. What they all three have in common is that they transformed the club and the team into a winning one, made the fans feel proud of their football club again and also genuine hope for the future. Keegan probably still #1 in this regard, then Howe and then SBR.

Howe number 1 for me and I loved Keegan and Robson.  We have silverware, simples.

Howe managed to win a trophy with Bruno clogging our midfield up, too. Bonus points for that.

At the time, I was cheering on every word and it's an all time moment however you look at it. Legendary.

Later on, people pointed out to me how it showed how the pressure and the baiting had finally gotten to him.

Why do I get the feeling this would have been Howe's response?

On thing that I have never seen is Ferguson's comments that prompted it? Were they from a televised interview?

They were - and they weren’t subtle.  Never bought the ‘brilliant mind games’ shite - he was outright accusing other teams of corrupt practice.  He never did that again - probably because the cunt should’ve been brought on disrepute charges by the FA

See, I find this amazing. I have, obviously, seen the Keegan clips thousands of times but never his. I wonder if his were buried for reasons similar to what you describe.

Think that's in the same interview but that clip looks like itss from Manchster United's season video so only showing what suits.

I'll have that interview on that nights Sportsnight on tape somewhere but cant access it at the moment.

The only lying down that happened in that title race was in favour of Man United - Boro we know about and Forest's keeper against them a few days later I remember infuriating me at the time, could have been biased eyes.

Just read Keegan’s autobiography. The corporate interference (and incompetence) made me properly cringe. Fucking awful he had to go through what he did with those chancers.
Sounds like some dubious practices, what Mr Wise-not wise (who apparently toted around an exercise book with MrWise’s book written on it) called a ‘commercial’ (deal) haven’t ceased — thinking of recent signing of Vlachodimos (had to look up his name…).
