Steven Taylor, the Geordie jewel in Newcastle's crown, fears he is being driven out of St James' Park.

The much-coveted England Under-21 skipper, whose current deal expires in June 2009, has revealed that negotiations over a new contract have ground to a complete standstill.

Taylor, the outstanding discovery of Newcastle's Academy, is concerned he is being made a scapegoat after his father and agent, Alf, highlighted his position last August.

And Taylor, 22, admits that while playing for Kevin Keegan's Newcastle is his dream he now has no choice but to look at his options if no new contract offer is made.

AdvertisementHe said: "I have heard nothing at all about a new contract. It is up to the chairman to offer me one, but the longer it goes without any feedback the more concerned I'm becoming. All I can do is keep giving 100 per cent for Newcastle.

"I've lived all my life on Tyneside, come up through the youth system and have a great relationship with the Newcastle fans. There is no other club I want to play for.

"Kevin Keegan (below) has been fantastic to me since he came in.

I love playing for him, but I know he has had a lot of other things on his mind since he came back. I understand that.

"But I don't think this is down to him. It has to be sorted out by the people upstairs.

There has been a lack of contact.

My dad has been mucked about. Meetings have been cancelled.

"I have been mucked about in the past and have kept my mouth shut. For things to have dragged on this long is a joke.

"I get on great with Kevin but I think it is the people upstairs who don't rate me.

"I won't be mucked about. I just want this sorted out."

Taylor, called up to the full England squad earlier this season for the friendly with Germany, rejected the offer of a five-year contract at the start of the current campaign which would have still left him as one of Newcastle's poorest paid players.

The centre back has seen other young players such as England Under-21 colleague James Milner and Charles N'Zogbia sign long-term deals which dwarf his salary.

Taylor, an ever-present since Keegan returned to the club last month, added: "The longer I hear nothing from the club the more I fear they want to sell me.

"If there is no offer on the table by the summer then I will have no choice but to look at my options."

If Taylor is allowed to leave a host of top clubs will chase his signature. Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Spurs have all been tracking his progress.

I'd say at the moment, that he's not done anything to justify getting an improved contract. He's been awful these last few games. He seems to be pushing the local lad angle to get what he wants. No one player is bigger than the club - if he feels he can get more elsewhere, then he can do one.

....well, I know people here dislike him but, tbf he's saying that he's not offered a new contract yet and do afraid he will be sold in this summer. That doesn't sounds unreasonable for a player who's contract is ending next summer ah?

I will have him over Ramage any day. And again, no matter how shit he is, we shouldn't sell him before we got a replacement. Cacapa's injury record is terrible and Faye is already 29 who may deteriorate any time.

Fat Sam rag he was offered a new contract with wages on par with the other young lads who signed a contract around the same time (Milner and Zog) but he turned it down, his old man then went on about Gerrard and Carragher so I wouldn't like to guess how much he's asking for.

What a surprise the club aren't busy sorting out new contracts when the club is free falling toward the relegation zone. NUFC Players: - Shut the fuck up, win games, secure Newcastle's future in the Premiership and then we'll think about who deserves a new contract and who can just fuck off.
