He (Arshavin) has gone on strike now!  :idiot2:

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3944207,00.html

Tottenham Hotspur target Andriy Arshavin has reportedly gone on strike at Zenit St Petersburg and his agent claims the playmaker is being treated like a 'slave'.

The Russia international impressed at Euro 2008 to spark a summer bidding war for his services, with Barcelona having two offers rejected.

Tottenham are now believed to be in the box-seat to land Arshavin, but the move could be in jeopardy after the 27-year-old refused to play as Zenit crashed out if the Russian Cup on Wednesday.

To Arshavin's frustration, the Uefa Cup holders are refusing to budge from their £27million valuation and White Hart Lane officials are unwilling to meet the price tag.

And in an echo of the comments of Fifa president Sepp Blatter in the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga, Arshavin's agent, Dennis Lachter, claims the player is being mistreated, telling The Independent: "This is the Russian way.

"Nothing will change because this is the old Soviet Union way. For the Russian sports establishment the desires of the player mean absolutely nothing.

"They are the big bosses. It is a dictatorship. He is a slave."

F*** me. How long is his contract for? If it's long term, it's his own f***ing fault!

what the hell is all this slave business about?! Idiots.

Obviously the new 'buzz word' since Blatter mentioned it about Ronaldo earlier in the summer.

Now every player's agent who doesn't get his way/transfer cries 'slave'!

This boke and his agent are just mental, Zenit are being a bit twatish like but he is their player and if Spuds won't meet the fee then he was bound to sit and cry like Barry and Ronaldo both did.

Was talking about this with my boss earlier.

Fair enough if it was Barca, Man U or similar.

But this guy is on strike over a move to SPURS!

Nuttier than David Blaine

no it's not fucking well fair enough if it was barca or man utd. his club are obliged to pay him for the length of the contract even if he turns out to be shit......he should uphold his part aswell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Players often withhold their services to get the move they want.  Bentley didn't play in Blackburn's pre-season games due to a calf strain yet recovered to make his debut within 48 hours of signing for Spurs, Berbatov also has a calf strain which has caused him to miss 4 preseason games, not consecutive ones btw.  It's very rarely described as going on strike, a slight calf strain or a slight hamstring twinge usually mean the same thing, that's all.

i'm actually worried that we may go for this geezer

I hope we do, I think we would have beaten Man U with him instead of Duff.  I know it might not work but I'm confident that it would with Keegan picking the team.

Zenit are clearly pooing themselves now as most of the top teams have settled their squads for the year and they're going to be stuck with a player who doesn't want to be there. In January when the post-Euro 2008 hysteria calms down and his contract is a few months nearer the end, his value is going to be a hell of a lot lower. They've fucked this up quite a bit.

Now they're stuck with Spurs as probably the only team showing a public interest who could afford him. Spurs know that, so they'll try and fuck Zenit over with a £15m take it or leave it bid. Fair play to them, it will serve the greedy bastards right!

Perfect opportunity to come in with a £17m bid!  :celb:

I think that if a club bid £17-18M for Diego then Werder Bremen would accept the offer. And i know which of the two i would rather see here. Probably alot more difficult to attract Diego. But without a doubt i would rather have Diego for that price than Arshavin. IF it was possible...

indeed, but as you said, Diego is a much more difficult signing

For that cash, Diego or Huntelaar but both are probably out of our reach at present.  Have to say I've always gone on about how much I wanted us to sign Arshavin but the longer this goes on, the less I'm enamoured by his apparent attitude. This could be wrong and agent/media led but he is coming across as something of a mercenary/gun for hire.
