Guest firetotheworks
Guthries not average because he doesnt seem to be a form player who is effective for a few games and then isnt. Hes been consistently good. Neat and tidy. Saying he's not good enough is snobby as f*** in our current situation. But aye, lets get Barry Ferguson in eh? He's average man. Offers nowt. How is repeating what you say an adequate response?

This may seem like Im changning the argument, but Guthrie offers a lot more for his pstion than what Taylor offers for his, and if Taylor is a good prospect who can learn with a better player by his side, then Guthrie can do much much more. Parsley
Probably stating the obvious here but I think he needs a better partner if he's going to find a role in midfield and improve himself. I get the impression that with Butt in midfield Guthrie's having to be the playmaker, a box to box midfielder and an anchorman all at once; we'll see the best of him with a good, specialised midfielder alongside him imo. (Keegan signing bytheway) Taylor is average too and no I'm not an apologist of his, although I do think the stick he gets is over the top at times and that I have in the past giving him the benefit of the doubt as a player who has came right through the ranks. And I couldn't care less who signed Guthrie, he's an average player who offers very little. Yes he's young, yes he's new, yes he is neat and tidy and yes he's better than Butt, but with him in the centre of midfield we are never going to get anywhere or with players like him in the starting lineup full stop and we have far too many such players. toontownman
Getting better with each handfull of games imo. HTT isn't wrong though, needs replacing in the first team, he will get his chance. We will knacker him out soon enough otherwise, or the usual build him up and knock him down syndrome will take effect.
Ronaldo
He's a great find Guthrie but not the answer at all, at least not yet
Guest Howaythetoon
Great find? How so? Now Bassong... He's someone KK took a chance on, another Kitson perhaps and not another Rob Lee. Having said that, if anyone could have developed his game further, it was KK and it would have been interesting to see him develop under KK. As a squad player, fair enough. First-team? Not good enough and never will be unless he undergoes a pretty radical phase of development. Can't see it.

Disco
Hopefully back by the Bolton game according to Hughton. Now that Kinnear isn't in charge perhaps Butt will be dropable. Fingers crossed although i can't see it. Also opens up the possibility of playing 4-3-3 again with Jonas/Lovenkrands in the hole perhaps.

Fingers crossed although i can't see it. I'd be interested to know how much politics is involved with situations like this. I mean, will Hughton and Calderwood drop Butt or will the keep in in because it would make Kinnear look like he's been wrong all along?

In the photos today it had something about Butt being captain. Therefore it wont happen.
TRon
Guthrie would be a massive improvement over Butt. Nolan's not the quickest and having Butt alongside him in midfield makes him look worse than he is. With someone relatively mobile in the middle, Nolan would probably look more effective as well. They played together when Nolan scored that quality volley because Guthrie ran over to hug him. Thats all I got.
Pilko
Hughton did try the 4-3-3 in the Hull home game, but it was a complete epic fail.
Wullie
Hughton did try the 4-3-3 in the Hull home game, but it was a complete epic fail. Hardly surprising given the players he used in it.
