I'm not sure what Ashley does for fun.

If he called watching this team last season fun, and the friendlies so far fun, then he his definition of fun is a long way from mine.

Yep, heh, he better get a few more players in or this season will be anything but fun

It's fun for him, he just likes looking and 52000 people and saying "haha you've all just given me 40 quid thats 2m,  woohoo.  2m in 90 mins".

Its a shame that there is no substance in this takeover talk, because i'd like to see a billionaire in charge who likes to spend his money.

I think overall Ashley has done wonders for the club, bit of sensibility has gone a long way, but he cannot take us forward like we hoped, if he does it will be a long drawn out process and by that time another 2-3 clubs could be a proper billionaires boys toy overtaking us and knocking us even further down the league.

Ashley in the end has no loyalty to us, so if a good offer comes in he'd take it, just as if a good offer for our future spending comes in i'd want to take that as well.

Watches Spurs?

What the Spurs he's going to buy once he's sold us? (According to Rob Shepherd on the radio yesterday).

If it wasn't so tragic it would be funny.

Bet dancing the post-match conga at the Stadium of Shite was fun.

I bet it was...for Mort who did it.

Pretty sure it was actually Ashley, the press picked those quotes up and got them wrong, Niall Quinn said Chairman but meant Ashley... I may be wrong though...

I wonder what odd's the bookies would give for Ashely selling the club in the next 6 months? If they have fallen for the media bullshit it maybe a good bet to place.

I just can't see Ashley selling so soon, why did he buy the club, pour loads of cash in to clear debts, then leave?

(of course I accept any club would sell if the price is high enough, but still can't see anyone really buying us for an over the top amount right now).

According to Disco Pants, it was "Newcastle's Owner".... and it was at St James after we beat them, not down there....

Reliance hang up on Newcastle United but Anil Ambani takeover is still on

Indian mobile phone giant Reliance Communications have refuted suggestions that they are about to launch a £260 million takeover of Newcastle United but billionaire chairman Anil Ambani’s interest in St James’ Park could still be very much alive.

Despite the denial, there remains a suspicion that the world’s sixth richest man could make a dramatic foray into English football.

The company reacted to claims that they were in talks with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley about a takeover with a terse official statement that read: “The news report is completely false and baseless. There are no such plans.”

However, experts on sub-continent affairs have greeted the announcement with a pinch of salt and refused to rule out a bid from Ambani, who is worth some £21 billion.

“This doesn’t mean that Ambani isn’t interested in investing from his personal wealth outside his company,” said Rob Shepherd.

City analysts believe that tentative third-party contact has been made between sports retail magnet Ashley and Ambani and that the telecommunications tycoon has backed off due to the publicity caused by weekend reports.

It is also understood Ambani is unhappy about revelations on Sunday that his son attends a private school in Kent due to security concerns and has made a tactical retreat.

Ashley appears unwilling to sell Newcastle outright but is looking for investors to share the financial burden inherent with owning a Premier League club.

Singapore-based global investment company Profitable Group have effectively cleared the way for Ambani to approach Ashley by ruling out a takeover bid.

“Yes, we are doing some promotional work with Newcastle but we’re not in talks with them about any takeover,” group operations director John Nordmann said.

it would appear that some people would prefer Mike Ashley to continue to be the owner of Newcastle, and comparatively underfunding his manager, instead of the 6th richest man in the world.

No wonder people laugh at geordies, how embarrassing.

Ashley is richer than Shepherd/Hall. Spot the flaw in your argument.

Also, the ridiculous irony in you automatically assuming a new board would be better for the club.
