But it was only once he took control that he realised the club was not as financially sound as he thought, with millions still owed today for transfers arranged by previous regimes.

Poor NE5's going to be reaching for the Pepsidol again.

NEWCASTLE United owner Mike Ashley today unveils his blueprint for the future of the club.

The billionaire has spoken at length for the first time about his Toon takeover and the challenges he has faced since arriving at St James’s Park.

He sent a message to the black and white faithful as he outlined his plans for the future, saying: “If you own Newcastle United, the one thing you want to do is win something. Kevin wants to do that and so do I.”

Ashley says his buy-out was done very quickly and describes his decision to swoop for the club and install Kevin Keegan as manager as a “no-brainer”.

But it was only once he took control that he realised the club was not as financially sound as he thought, with millions still owed today for transfers arranged by previous regimes.

Ashley says the club was in a downward spiral, which it had to get out of and explains his short-term goal was to get it back on its feet.

But he has no regrets and he is looking to the future and says clubs like Arsenal set the example the Magpies should be following, with strong youth systems and global scouting networks.

The loyal Toon Army are central to Ashley’s plans as he says he wants to hear their views and tells how he loves meeting supporters at away games.

Ashley says he is excited by the framework he has installed at St James’s Park, including the appointments of Dennis Wise and Tony Jiminez.

He has also laughed off claims he had showdown talks with Keegan, saying their relationship is strong.

See tonight's Evening Chronicle for more excerpts from the interview. The full interview will be available in Newcastle United’s new official monthly magazine, which will go on sale from tomorrow priced at £3.50.

“If you own Newcastle United, the one thing you want to do is win something. Kevin wants to do that and so do I.”

He needs to back up this words with giving KK large amount of money for transfers

Its always easy to speak empty words when our squad is short on players like never before.

He also "explains his short-term goal was to get it back on its feet". Arsenal's blueprint isn't a bad one to follow, especially for a club which has been spending recklessly on wages for players who weren't earning them.

to think a billionaire who wouldn't have a team of forensic accountants to establish creditors of that magnitude is insane tbh

Sir John gave him a limited amount of time and that time wasn't long enough to allow them to go through the books in the detail that they were looked at later.
