Much better today, some good passing and even a decent cross. Similar to how he played at OT.

Noticeable that when he has that bit of quality around him he tends to produce more (see his performances for Argentina) as teams are less likely to single him out as the threat and mark/kick him out of the game. He'll be a good player for someone next season, hopefully an improved us.

Man United didn't single him out.

They did though, he was constantly being fouled, especially by O'Shea. He has the skill to operate well even if he's being closely marked, time and time again he gets the ball and he'll either do a trick or two to evade his marker or dribble his way out. Its that end product that is missing in his game which makes many of his runs, dribbling and fantastic work ethic irrelevant in the main. Tonight he had an end product.

best performance since Old Trafford

Yep.

I'll say this about Jonas, he does relieve pressure in a fantastic way as he can bypass two or even three players with nifty footwork and can also take the ball from one corner of the pitch to the opposite. He's obviously a fantastic team player but his technique really is shoddy which is a shame because he's a good footballer and it is actually surprising it isn't any better. You see him like tonight shift those feet with a trick or two which is great skill, then watch in astonishment when that same player just kicks a cross behind for a goal-kick or over hits a pass or shoots in the same vein a defender will pass back to his 'keeper. Highly frustrating.

Very true, i haven't seen many players with as good close control when running flat out as Jonas and that is a very hard skill to learn never mind master. It may just be confidence with Jonas but i think it has to be kept in mind that on the left he does get forced out a lot, therefore using his much weaker foot, on his right he's actually decent tbh. Shame we don't switch wingers sometimes.

I remember he put in a really nice through ball with the outside of his right, for lovenkrands which had Vds out of his area on the wing to clear it. So he has the ability.....he needs to cut inside more and have some shots from the middle of the pitch though. Stays on the wing to much.

Is it worth giving him a try in the middle, perhaps in the 'hole' (cringe), behind Martins?

Was tried against Coventry and he sucked.

That's far too responsive. Keep doing it for 6 more games, THEN realise it's not working, then do something about it.

This is Newcastle. The minimum timeframe at which the management is allowed to realize that something isn't working is two years.

Honestly, no. He works better on the wing, and trying to cut into goal, he almost has too much space in the middle.

Jonas DOES link well with Enrique, but that is more due to Enrique's movement than his ; Jonas is a luxury player in a team like Newcastle...put him in a decent side and he will look better, but his meaningful contributions are rare - very few goals scored or created by him.

Why would you consider a player who is willing to graft AND has a bit of quality about him a "luxury" player? Because he isn't Robert?

He's not a luxury player at all, surely he's the opposite? He works hard going forward and in defense, yes he doesn't set up that many goals but he's only had Shola to aim for in a lot of his matches!

He'll be better in a better team, but the same goes for a lot of players. We just need to weed out the absolute shit to have a decent side.
