Players we love but managers hate

Recommended Posts

Do they know something we don't or is it vice versa?

Zog, Robert, Enrique and Kluivert for example seemed to be disliked by some managers.

Butt, Ameobi, Speed and Smith on the other hand, seem to have been more appreciated by them than us.

Do we lack football knowledge or do they?

totally with Big TRon here, speed was disliked by quite a lot and even booed on occasion.

The fact Charlie hasn't done anything really for two and a half years might be the reason why managers don't love him so to speak.

who are the player, owen aside, who have done anything of note in that time?

It's true there aren't many, but N'Zogbia has been a massive under achiever in the last two and a half years.  Strange that he's still so popular tbh.

true that. I remember he was pretty crap or rather mediocre at best in the early days of when he signed but nobody should be booed whilst they`re wearing the shirt

bellamy

can't believe no one has mentioned him yet.

it's s**** when you think souness ended up making bellamy and robert leave, and effectively ruin kluivert's career

To be fair to Souness (not that I really want to be fair to him) but Kluivert ruined his own career I think, he didn't need anybody else's help.

Bellamy was the biggest example of a manager having too big an ego to swallow his pride for the good of the team. I think sometimes if players cross over from confident to arrogant, that's where the problems arise. Particularly with old school managers like Souness.

His popularity is based on what he's produced in the past and is capable of producing, in theory anyway. I like Zog but he's got an attitude problem. There are times when he looks like he can't be bothered and that's probably the reason he has been consistently over-looked by successive managers.

Just remembered another fans favourite who wasn't rated by his manager, Ginola during Dalglish's time here. That was just due to Dalglish's over-cautious nature. Some of his line ups were so defensive and lacking in flair players it was like watching paint dry.

It started to go wrong for Zog in the season when Roeder assumed control without Shearer at his side. Up until then he had shown a lot of promise and was starting to look like a player. Duff was signed and became a lock for the wide left slot and Zog went into reverse. Clearly there were attitude problems coming out as well and Roeder couldn't deal with him (in much the same way that he couldn't deal with Luque).

Most of that was when Kenny D signed him instead of Georgi Kinkladze & played Speed on the left wing.

Aye it just amazes me that Taylor has gone backwards he rightly gets hammered for it, whereas N'Zogbia has arguably gone backwards just as much, and he's still seen as the future of the club.

He has the potential to be a good player, but he's done nothing to realise that potential for a good few years, & is in danger of ending up like another Ameobi, where he'll turn 27 and people will still be claiming he's due another chance.
