M4
Huh, didn't know the shirt only managed 20 minutes up there! Thought it was allowed to stay for much longer.

Exiled in Texas
http://nufc.com/2010-11images/shearer-aotn-statue.jpg Shame about the shield/patch thing ruining the shirt. Was amazed that they got a Carroll 9 shirt up so soon.....at least that's what the name looks like from here.

David28
If Carroll keeps playing for us the next 15 years he'll only need 13 goals per season to end up as our record goalscorer. Andy Carroll, Newcastle United record goalscorer 2025.

midds
The Number 9 shirt should be given to the main striker at the club at that time. That happens to be Carroll at the minute so I've not got a problem with it at all. It will always represent the state of the club at the time and the fact that it's now Andy Carroll speaks volumes about where we are as a club at the minute. This is where we are so let's just get on with it. Best of luck to the lad.

Ronaldo
To some extent it suggests that we're not in the market for a new striker, which would be a big worry. Right now i'd say we're best off pairing Carroll and Shola, but I can't really see either hitting double figures. But I have no problem with him getting the no.9 shirt. He was excellent in the latter half of last season and a big factor in us finishing first.

He was excellent in the latter half of last season and a big factor in us finishing first. I don't think Hughton was in the market for a 'traditional number 9' anyway. A second striker/new Lovenkrands i think we'd buy if we were buying a forward.
Ronaldo
Lovenkrands is no second striker, he's a poacher. Which is exactly what we could do with, but a better one.
CaliMag
Right now i'd say we're best off pairing Carroll and Shola, but I can't really see either hitting double figures. I disagree. I think pairing thsoe two regularly would be a disaster. Shola when under pressure turns into a statue. In the Premiership we'd have two target men standing around offering no movement and no pressure to opposition defenders.
CaliMag
Lovenkrands is no second striker, he's a poacher. Which is exactly what we could do with, but a better one. Still a better pairing with Carroll than Shola.

He has no guile at all unforunately. Meant more someone to place off the big man - poacher or '10'.
Keefaz
Good player, imo. Will no doubt go off the rails and ruin his career.
Liam Liam Liam O
To suggest that giving Carroll the number 9 shirt is in any way "not fair on Shola" is fucking crackers. Shola has had four fucking years to establish himself since Shearer retired and hasn't taken the chance.
Ronaldo
Lovenkrands is no Premier League striker. Shola isn't either, but he'll cause trouble for defenders on a regular basis. Lovenkrands just won't impose himself against top defenders.
toontownman
Shola is fine when he is focused, when he actually pull's his finger out and concentrates he can be a decent play. Problem is we can be 5 goals down and he is sat there ambling around with a stupid grin on his face like a cheshire cat. Barton needs to have a word tbh.
