To be fair I'd imagine most teams looking for a striker have had a look at him. He's one of world footballs hottest properties with regards to potential.

 

Yeah, people shouldn't be surprised or alarmed. If Mourinho wants a tall striker to complement Higuaín/Benzema, Madrid's technical staff are going to look at all the good tall strikers in Europe. They were linked with Hugo Almeida and Mario Gómez, who are s*** compared to Carroll.

 

Can't they get Llorente? Just as big, and at present he's a better player too from the little I've seen.

He's one of their top targets, actually. Florentino recently vowed that he wouldn't buy him in January out of respect to Bilbao, which means he's odds on to make the move in the summer unless Mou gets his way and forces them to sign somebody else in the winter window.

Consider this my first  - and probably last - ITK post ever, but I do know for certain that Real Madrid have looked at Andy Carroll. He's also low in their list (which I have been told has around 20 names). They have looked at all the top leagues in Europe for a tall striker. Again, I'll stress they won't bid for him.

Has he been given much press outside of the UK? I know if a birght young striker playing for one of the big clubs in Europe has scored as many as he has, then we would have heard of them but if they were playing for lesser clubs in Europe only a few of us may know about their reputation.

 

Basically, will these Madrid fans even know who he is?

I'd hate to see Llorente go to Madrid and be just a squad player/plan B target man like, same when he was linked to Barca. He's far too good to be just that.

 

I wouldn't be surprised to see them go for Gómez like, but he's probably far less attainable now than he would have been at the start of the season. He's been brilliant for Bayern so far this term.

ANDY CARROLL admits he was “devastated” when he was dropped against Manchester City earlier in the season.

 

But the Newcastle United hotshot insists that the disappointment only strengthened his resolve to succeed . . .

 

And left the 21-year-old – who already has 10 goals this season – determined to make his mark on the Boxing Day rematch at St James’ Park.

 

Carroll was left out of the starting line-up at the City of Manchester Stadium in October, coming on as a late replacement for Kevin Nolan.

 

The decision by Chris Hughton to axe his star striker came amid speculation Carroll could be called up for England’s European Championship qualifier against Montenegro.

 

And by his own admission, the player had not performed well in training in the build-up to the game, which City won 2-1.

 

Now, however, Carroll could be deployed against Roberto Mancini’s side as a lone striker by new manager Alan Pardew, and the Gateshead-born star has vowed to continue giving his utmost to the United cause.

 

“I was devastated – I had a poor week, and didn’t get picked for the weekend,” said Carroll.

 

“When you miss a game, it’s not very good, but you push yourself harder to get in, and it’s a great feeling when you do play. It’s even better.

 

“Obviously, I’ve just been working hard in every game I’ve been in.”

 

Carroll knows more of the same will be required against Mancini’s millionaires on Sunday, with City keen to make amends for Monday’s defeat at Everton.

 

And the Magpies forward believes that provided the service from the likes of Nolan and Joey Barton remains as good as it has been in recent games, he can prosper.

 

“Man City are a great team, and everyone’s looking forward to it,” Carroll said. “If we keep putting balls in the box, I’m sure I’ll score some goals.”

 

United were left frustrated when last Saturday’s game at Birmingham City was postponed a little over three hours before kick-off at St Andrews.

 

But Carroll says the call-off has allowed him and his team-mates to focus fully on Sunday’s game.

 

“Everyone was gutted that the game wasn’t on,” Carroll said.

 

“Obviously, everyone was looking forward to the game, and having it called off was disappointing.

 

“As soon as the game was cancelled, everyone just had to concentrate on the Man City game.

 

“Everyone’s got their heads switched on, and is ready to play.

 

“We haven’t been able to train as much as we’d have liked, but we’ve had more time with the gaffer and been working on a few things.”

 

Speculation continues to link Carroll with a lucrative, big money move away from St James’.

 

But Pardew has repeatedly stressed the player is going nowhere, and that news has delighted Carroll himself.

 

“That’s nice to hear him say things like that,” Carroll said, “but I just need to play my football and concentrate on scoring goals.”
