West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll

Recommended Posts

Suarez's physical attributes, combined with his pedigree, technical ability and obvious goalscoring instinct, makes him a better player than Carroll, in my opinion.

Edit: It's his combination of strength, pace and technical ability - physical attributes - that impresses me the most. That's what I should have said. Apologies.

Second edit: I would love more than nothing to be wrong and for Suarez to end up like Kuyt, but it's far more likely he ends up impacting English football in the way than van Nistelrooy did.

better for NUFC at this current time with our current squad?  can't agree with that like but each to their own

Are people seriously arguing that Carroll is better than Suarez on the basis of his half good season this year? Fair enough if people want to question whether Suarez can adapt to the premiership (though his physical size tells me that he will), but it's not like Carroll has proven that he is good in the Premiership season after season. Get a grip of yourself, stop being delusional, those who think Carroll is better than the likes of Suarez is as bad as Mackems who were worshiping Bent before he left.  Utter embarrassment

People are arguing that he's worth more then Suarez, and I'd agree simply because he's a very rare kind of striker.  Arguing that one player is better then another completely different player, especially when they're playing in two very different leagues is pretty stupid IMO.  Though obviously Carroll is the safer bet in this league.

I think Carroll is quick, has a great instinct for scoring (does miss some he should score but then he is young and most do), can drift wide, put in excellent crossses, can shoot from distance, bullies the fuck out of defenders and is absolutely unstoppable in the air when he wants to be.

He might not have the history behind him as he only really stepped onto the scene a year ago but his potential is outstanding and I can see why people think he is worth the punt more than someone who has done exceptionally well in a far inferior league (defensively) and done good at international level.

I never said that. I just think Suarez is a better player, overall.

I don't disagree with that. If he can improve his control then he'd be the best striker in the league. Carroll's excellent for us now. He's probably the best striker in the world for our squad because we exploit his strengths so well, but if we're to step up, Carroll has to improve his game on the ground because to be a good team, we have to be able to dominate possession.

As it is, Suarez has more to his game, in my opinion.

Has anyone stopped to ask what the fucking point of this discussion is?

Carroll has had a good six months but it may turn out to be the best six months of his career in terms of goals to games. Similarly Suarez could struggle to adapt to the Premier League as many others have before him. Does who is better matter? No.

I think the point was someone suggested £23m as an insult and tbh I have to agree.

I know it's a staggering amount, especially given the short time he has been playing as well as he has but given various factors I think we could push for a lot more.

£23 million is an insult because of the timing more than anything. 72 hours before the end of the transfer window I'd want that and Defoe as a starting point.

If time was no obstacle and I had faith in the club to reinvest it in players of quality then I'd be very tempted to accept a bid around that region. It's not though and I don't so they can piss off.

I can't agree he's destined to move at some point. After one season back in the PL we have Tiote, Enrique, Barton, Colo, HBA and Carroll all doing amazingly well. I think Simpson will only get better as he plays more n a settled back 4. Add some more quality additions and we should be a top 6 team in a couple of seasons................. i fucking hope.

Carroll has only had half a season at the top level and half a season would not normally be enough to make big predictions on.

However I would say that having watched him for a few seasons now, injury free, Andy Carroll will go on to be the best English forward of his generation.

The last time I was so confident about a product of our youth set up was when Paul Gascoigne graduated to the first team.

Bar Torres (although he does pick up his fair share on injuries), Liverpool absolutely ruin forwards anyway so Suarez better keep his fingers crossed

Don't forget, this is King Kenny we're talking about.

'Arry talking to The Guardian:

"I never made a bid for Andy Carroll. Maybe the chairman did but I never did. Nobody has told me we've made a bid. I can't get a striker in – Robbie Keane has gone on loan, we've lost him. The chairman made the deal. I think it's on loan but, if they stay up, there's a set fee [of £6m for West Ham] to buy him."
