Guest Howaythetoon
If he was a penalty-taker he'd walk Shearer's record. No reason he can't be better than Shearer at this rate of improvement, he's already better than the post-97 version. Howay man... As much as I love and respect you, Shearer's where you cross that murky line into outright bias. You think he's as good as El Phenomenon, for a start. 10 league goals from open play by Decemeber in a team far worse than Shearer played in during his goal-happy years. The lad's incredible. As an individual talent I doubt there has been anyone better than Ronaldo since maybe Maradona (although I'd vote Zidane myself) but in all my Shearer vs Ronaldo arguments I always base it on centre-forward vs centre-forward and Alan Shearer was a better all-round centre-forward than Ronaldo in my opinion. He wasn't a better footballer of course, neither was he a better footballer than Beardsley or even Teddy Sheringham but he was by far the better striker, centre-forward or goalscorer or whatever you want to call it of his generation, a generation Ronaldo belonged to. To compare Carroll to Shearer and claim he would walk his goals tally if he were to take set pieces based on his handful of top-flight games is a remarkable statement to make. I have perhaps been a bit too critical of Carroll's abilities I know but he will never be in Shearer's class and will never get anywhere near his tally in a Toon shirt because he's too limited as an all-rounder. He doesn't look to have a right foot for a start and his control and technique is average. So is his leading of the line. He's bang on form and is the talisman for this side but Shearer was something else, even at Carroll's age.

Remember that small patch in the season when he went a few games without scoring?, that was when I put him in my fantasy football team, needless to say he didn't score until the very game after I took him out of my team. Conjo
And to think at the start of the season, I only included Routledge and Perch as cheap but "potential point saviours in case of injuries" from Newcastle, as I didn't think any of the players would get much points

Guest BooBoo
He has a strange penalty technique as witnessed in the friendly at Deportivo. Happy with Nolan or the Big Sho on penalty duty.

Guest schmuck
I can't think of many players with as lanky a frame as him who've made good penalty takers, the longer your limbs the easier you are to read for one, and his technique doesn't seem suited to pens for me somehow. Shola being the best exception with tall players I can think of, but then his style is more languid and ultimately he's an absolute law unto himself. Overall its not about scoring records though is it, as nice as it is to see your no. 9 bag as many as possible, it should always be the best penalty taker in the team stepping up for the greater good. Taylor Swift
His feet still aren't quick enough for his ground game to be top class, but it's been getting better. If he can improve his technique, ball control and passing, he'd be world class.
AfroP
The charges against him for chinning his ex lass have been dropped "Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll has had a charge of assaulting his former girlfriend dropped. He appeared in court accused of attacking Laurie Henderson at her home in Northumberland on 17 October. The hearing was adjourned until January with an initial bail condition that he lived with club captain Kevin Nolan. But the Crown Prosecution Service said after it reviewed the evidence it had decided there was not a realistic chance of conviction. A CPS spokesman said: "We take all cases such as this extremely seriously and we considered the evidence initially provided by the police and decided the correct charge was one of assault by beating. "We have a duty to keep cases under constant review and once we received a full file of evidence before the trial we looked at the case again. "Having reviewed all the evidence now available, we have decided there is no longer a realistic prospect of conviction and we are no longer proceeding with the case against Andrew Carroll." He said a letter had been sent to Miss Henderson to explain the decision. Three days after the court had ordered Mr Carroll to live with his captain, his car was targeted in an arson attack outside Mr Nolan's Northumberland home. In October, the player pleaded guilty to a separate assault charge after an incident at a Newcastle nightclub and was fined £1,000." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-11978638
