Joe Kinnear has triple heart bypass surgery, home on Sunday

Recommended Posts

If Kinnear can't carry on then how they handle this will be a bigger indication of how the club is going to move on than any Q&A for the local rags.

This will be a massive test and one they can't afford to get wrong.

I want him out, but not dead. If the situation is as dire as it seems, he should probably be put down.

No compassionate at all you lot from over the other side of the water.

"Look, Tooj, no point feeling sorry about Kinnear. It's a kindness. Like a blind old incontinent sheep dog, he's had his day. Take him out to the barn with a double-barreled shotgun and blow the mother away. And I'm only saying that because I'm so fond of him."

This is an unbelievable turn of events.

It's almost as if all of the negative energy towards Kinnear on here actually brought this about! I mean seriously what were the odds of this happening at this point in time.

Well it looks like we'll get the new manager many have been crying out for now.

Should be interesting.

Venables would take us down. have zero confidence in him, that said i rated kinnear worse!

Venables was a fine coach, capable of doing a fine job previously. Having turned down the job via The Sun last time round I doubt he'll be offered the job again.

I agree - Venables would have done a better job than Kinnear and I DON'T think he would have taken the club down. He has great experience working with foreign players too, and that would be invaluable because he would command respect from them. He IS a good coach and that is something the club desperately needs.

He MIGHT take the job if it was offered on, say, a 2 year deal or even 18 months, but I reckon he would have some hard questions for Ashley & Co about signing/choosing players, questions they might not like..!

Unless we go for a promising young manager as a long-term appt., we will be lucky to get an experienced manager with Venables' credentials because no-one wants the job.

Damn.

I wish Joe the best of luck and hopefully a speedy recovery. I may have wanted him sacked, but I would never wish any sort of physical harm upon anyone. My support goes out to him and his family.

As for what now looks to be a managerial vacancy for us, hopefully the club won't fuck around and will get a new manager in as soon as possible, while compensating Kinnear for his service and efforts so far.

NUFC face fight to land Didier Deschamps

Sep 9 2008 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

Didier Deschamps

NEWCASTLE United could face a fight if they turn to legendary French World Cup-winning captain Didier Deschamps.

Spurs’ assistant manager Gus Poyet remains the overwhelming favourite to succeed Kevin Keegan after working as Dennis Wise’s No 2 at Leeds United and Swindon Town.

The Uruguayan is believed to have already held talks in the capital with United’s representatives.

But former Juventus and Monaco boss Deschamps is also on Newcastle’s radar should Poyet – who is reluctant to give up life in the capital – opt out of a switch to Tyneside. Poyet’s superb relationship with United executive director Tony Jimenez may also see the Londoner swing a deal despite Poyet’s reservations about moving north again.

Deschamps fits into the framework of the club’s controversial two-tier management system which resulted in Kevin Keegan quitting the club.

However, Deschamps is an admirer of executive Dennis Wise after developing a strong friendship with the Londoner during his solitary season in England back in 1999/2000 when Chelsea won the FA Cup, beating the Magpies in the semi-final 2-1 at Wembley.

Yet although Deschamps is currently out of work, sources in France claim that he is in line for the national team job with current Les Bleus head coach Raymond Domenech fighting for his job.

A source close to Deschamps told the Chronicle: “It’s no secret that Didier was close to Dennis Wise during his time at Chelsea.

“And he was certainly interested in the job back in January before Keegan came in.

“The problem is that everybody thinks that he will be the next national team manager, very soon.”

Back in January when his agent Jeannot Werth was asked if Deschamps would be interested, he replied: “Yes, why not?”

Deschamps’ managerial CV is quite impressive – as a rookie boss he won the French League Cup with Monaco in 2003 before leading the principality side to the Champions League final in 2004, where they lost 3-0 to Porto.

And in 2007 he resigned as Juve coach after taking the club back to Serie A after the club had been demoted following the infamous match-fixing scandal a year earlier which had resulted in Fabio Capello losing his job.

France – who were dumped out of Euro 2008 in the group stages – were also gunned down by Austria 3-1 over the weekend in their World Cup qualification group.

And failure to beat Serbia on home soil tomorrow night could spell the end for Domenech, with national hero Deschamps one of the favourites to take his place.

French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes has also given Domenech the dreaded vote of confidence after the loss in Vienna.

Now Le Graet, the FFF’s vice-president, has again come out in defence of the coach with the pressure growing in France.

He said: “People are coming to see Domenech’s head roll more than to watch a match. That is not right.”

Deschamps was staying under the radar today, with the outcome of France’s clash with Serbia the key to his future.

Meanwhile, the Chronicle revealed in the aftermath of Keegan’s departure that Brazilian legend Zico was interested in taking the post.

And the former Japan and Fenerbahce manager said today: “The Newcastle job is one that I would be very interested in taking. It would be a privilege and an honour.

“I am used to working alongside technical directors so this isn't an issue for me. It's normal for me to work in those conditions.”

United are also keeping a close eye on events at Upton Park with Gianfranco Zola the favourite to take over from Alan Curbishley.

West Ham, though, are still waiting to see if Slaven Bilic will change his stance on the position after Croatia have played England tomorrow night before making a final decision.

Zola would then re-enter the Newcastle equation, although it would the worst kept secret in football that United would be his second choice after setting his heart on the Hammers job.

Another name that can’t be ruled out for St James’s Park is former England boss Terry Venables.

He has an understanding with Wise after managing the former midfielder with England and has told friends not to rule him out of a possible head coach role working under the former Wimbledon and Chelsea star.

Get it right Dennis  :knuppel2:

Poyet is still smarting from the spurs. Domenech is firmly re-entrenched. Zola has joined West Ham and is doing well. Your pal Deschamps is still available.

Please don't mess this up.

If he has no dealings with money matters and Wise is dealing with the transfers for the most part, he might not be bad, like you say he isnt a bad coach. Its been a long time since he was producing the goods though.

He did ok at the smogs but hardly set the world alight, then became known as the worst ever manager of Leeds with a more talented squad than his predecessors had and arguable a more talented squad than we have now.

He would be as much as a gamble as anyone though up here. One thing is certain the Newcastle job has no respect for previous success or achievments.

a urgent bypass as most papers are suggesting today would mean a 3/4 month rest period, I think if this is true he is finished at ST James Park, most definately

If it's true that he needs heart bypass surgery then there's no way he's coming back this season, and probably not at all.

Very unfortunate for him, but represents an excellent opportunity for the club to get it right this time....I won't be holding my breath.

wish him the best anyways but in the long run it might be for the best for NUFC

You'de like to think things are already moving to get a replacement. The shambles earlier in the season when Hughton was in charge was appalling.
