Just something about Harper and England which is worth considering:

How many England No.2s have been called upon at the last minute only to have a howler. I put this down to the typical sub keeper for England being so used to being No. 1 that they haven't developed that mentality to be ready as back-up.

Steve Harper has that mentality to perfection and could make him more useful to have around the place than other keepers.

mountain from a molehill yet again.

Indeed, what a load of nonsense.

Clever thinking !

???

Surely if you were looking for an England No. 2 you would want someone who's used to playing every week, not someone who is a specialist at sitting on the bench?!

His point was that someone that's playing every week isn't used to being called on at the last minute, and so doesn't perform. Harper would be used to that and would be more able to play at his best on short notice.

But they're used to playing, so they'll be able to play!

My opinion of the man has greatly improved. The lack of ambition is addressed and Shay Given should probably have taken note on how to deal with problems you have with the club.

Fingers crossed the club put him on at least 30k a week.

He's been on loads of money whilst he's been here. SBR said we'd offered him a very lucrative contract to compensate for him being 2nd choice. I can't understand why you'd hope he was on at least £30k.

If there's one good thing about our currents squad, it's that everyone seems so... likable.

Just looking at the interviews we've seen from Bassong, Colo, Enrique, Nolan, Raylor and Harper etc. they've all come off as top blokes who enjoy playing for the club.

No more shit-stirrers like Insomnia or lazy wasters like Carr. There's not a single member of our current squad that I honestly hate.

They never stir any shit and they never waste any energy when they are on the pitch.  They are 100% honest working nice guys on and off the pitch.  If you hate them there is something really wrong with you.

Likes of Smitih/Butt/Duff/Cacapa/Geremi are just really, really bad players. I haven't seen anything about them that makes me fault their attitude.

Carroll's a cunt, but he's not visible enough for me care.

Smith's a top top lad, but a poor poor player.

Good read, great to read about him knocking on the managers door as well.

I love a good story about people knocking on other people's doors. It's the suspense thing. It's a will they let them in or won't they. Great, edge of the seat, British Isles, thriller.

Not every footballer can pay a few million upfront for there gaffs.

not many need to pay a few million to buy there houses outright let alone as an up front lumper.
