Grubby cunts at City will tapping these youngsters up left right and centre. Same as Chelsea.

Fair shout! We had Chelsea pinch one of our England youth players not long ago so I’m particularly salty about the potential for the Cartel clubs to come mooching around trying to disrupt us when their hegemony at youth team / U23s gets threatened.

Still maintain that it's absolutely grim "buying" children for football clubs

I get the sentiment, but if you're a 12 year old kid and Barnsley is your local club you go there, it's not like that area is abundant with big clubs with great academies. Does that mean that kid gets disadvantaged because he can't go and have the facilities of one of the big clubs, and should Barnsley then not be entitled to some form of compensation/transfer fee for the development of that kid up to that point?

I'm not convinced a child should leave his hometown, school and his school mates at the age of 12 just for football

And that's exactly why he has to go to Barnsley at that age, but by 15-16 if he has a chance to go to a bigger and better academy to give himself the best opportunity to make it, he should be entitled to, and Barnsley should be able to be compensated properly.

Ideally I agree but 16-17 year olds make their first team debuts sometimes, so when a player that young can be a professional it's hard to put a lid on movements of 15 year olds.
