That hasn't stopped Sunderland being among a host of Premier League clubs, as well as Championship side Newcastle United, said to be pursuing Norwegian winger Erik Huseklepp.

Huseklepp starred in Wednesday night's 4-0 World Cup win over Scotland in Oslo.

And reports in Scandanavia claimed Sunderland are preparing a £2.5million bid for the SK Brann midfielder, who scored his first international goal in the game.

The Black Cats were also said to be monitoring midfielders Per Ciljan Skjelbred, of Rosenberg, and Molde's Magne Hoseth.

Scouts from Arsenal, Tottenham, Fulham, Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, Everton, Hoffenheim, Monaco and AS Rennes were also the Scotland game.

Alan Shearer had an interest in taking Huseklepp to St James's Park when he was in charge of the Magpies.

The 24-year-old is out of contract next year, which should restrict how much Brann can demand from interested clubs.

Jermaine Beckford is the acid test signing. Would actually cost money, it's a position that desperately needs strengthening but it requires an owner with some backbone and a hint of commitment to the club.

So we can forget about that then.

If you think you'd get Mike Williamson or Tommy Smith on the cheap, you better think again, esp. Williamson, we only signed him (for 150k, I think) in January.

You reckon Tommy Smith would be a good signing? What is his best position?

Right wing/second striker, and you won't get a more proven consistent player in this league for that price.

Fuck it; take them all for £10M: Tommy Smith, Mike Williamson, Jobi McAnuff, Ross Jenkins, Jay DeMerit. It looks like anyone worth anything is off this summer. ":("

Mike Williamson is slightly slow, but incredible otherwise. £3M, plz.

Anyone think these are Wises recommendations. Remember him being at Watford loads last season, mainly watching that young lad?

O'Toole? Take him. You can pay him in beer, he won't mind.
