Yeah, definitely reminded me of the Birmingham game. Unfortunately for us though, we don't have a nice easy home game to be able to follow it up with!

We do have Spurs though..

An away match against one of the in-form teams in the division aiming for a top 7 place. Spiffing.

Goal of the game: Andy Carroll's powerful' date=' looping error was not only a great finish, but could signal the moment that his side's fortunes changed for the better.[/quote']

Spot the mistake.

Won't be easy but we've got a better chance against them then we had against Stoke IMO.

Watching that header again on MOTD, fucking hell! Absolutely colossal power he generates to get that in. Could be a contestant for goal of the month for that alone.

It's a pity we haven't still got Milner, a lot of his crosses were those lofted dropping ones which are usually neither use nor ornament. Duff does it too, he's crossed for both of Carroll's goals but the power and accuracy he gets is superb and turns a shit cross into a useful one.

Wouldn't like to be on the end of a headbutt from him, he'd knock you through a wall.

The midfield were absolute shit today. Nolan, Butt and Guthrie made Stoke's players look like playmakers, and Duff and Ryan were awful as wing backs. The long ball might be our best option if we are going to stick with these players.

Jonas made all the difference today by doing something which appeared completely alien to the rest of the team - passing and moving. Him, Beye and Taylor were combining well in the later stages and that was what got us back into it.

Agreed, although I thought Guthrie was neat and tidy, and just in being that was the best of a bad bunch. Would much rather have taken off Nolan or Butt for Jonas.

Nolan did an excellent job of hiding behind the nearest red and white shirt. Pathetic performance.

Anyone see on MOTD Shearer asking Dowie who was supposed to have had Faye? Dowie clearly mouthed 'Shola'.

Aye, I saw that too. Im sure Shearer kind of nodded as if he already knew the answer too.

Shearer and Dowie seemed in good spirits just before kick off too

Harper = 7 Had a fairly good game, a bit shaky at times but made some good saves.

Beye = 7 Solid, dependable as he always is.

Edgar = 7 Was worried at the start about him but to be fair to the lad he came through and passed a tough test.

Bassong = 8 Again solid and dependable but he gets an extra point for dominating Beattie in the air fair and square. Despite Beattie's protests.

Taylor = 6 Better, delivery can still improve. His long throws can be a weapon with Carroll in there.

Nolan = 6 Average, need more from him in terms of bossing the midfield

Guthrie = 5 Looked lost out there today, not completely match fit for me.

Butt = 4 Was awful today, its very hard to believe a player who played in the Man U treble winning squad doesn't know how to control a ball.

Duff = 6 Poor first half, a lot better second half, looked threatening. Good ball in for the goal.

Ameobi = 4 Woeful, in defence and attack. Can't hand the ball up, is ok in the air winning flick ons, really should dominate at defending set pieces for someone of his size, but struggles with the simplest task of marking.

Owen = 6 Did ok today, unlucky with his chance in the first half, retained possession well. Looks better when he drops deeper.

Subs:

Jonas = 8 As has already been said on here, he changed the game did what all of the midfield struggled with the whole game, keeping the ball. Would like to see him start in behind the strikers, he could be deadly there.

Carroll = 8 Looks better each time I see him, great header for the goal, and some valuable defensive work in the dying moments. Needs to start along with Jonas next week.

As if anyone deserves an 8/10 from that match.

The subs are at least a high seven. We looked a different team going forward with Jonas on. As I said I gave Bassong an 8 just for dominating Beattie in the air and Beattie's reaction to it.

Bassong was a class apart as usual (how fucking depressing btw that by far and away our best player - even when coming back from injury - is a kid signed for a few quid and a packet of crisps from a shit relegated French team), Edgar did well and the two subs changed the game.

Still don't think anyone deserves an 8/10.

It depends if its in relation to how shit the game was or in relation to Lionel Messi IMO.

Therefore in relation to how poor the match was Carrolls worthy of a 9, even just for his 20 minutes.

Just got in. A good result that i didn't think possible at half-time.

It's still in our hands. A loss would be disasterous, but a draw maintains the lottery between us/Mackems/Hull for that 18th spot.

Another draw next week would be another good result imo. We have to pick up atleast two wins from them home games though.
