Joey Barton: Birmingham City fans have their say

Jul 7 2009

Controversial Newcastle United star Joey Barton has been linked strongly with a move to Birmingham City, here's what the fans at St Andrews think of the news.

PotOfGold: A loan deal is the only way to sign barton! when he receives his suspension we can end the deal and give him back!

RJS: If McLeish goes ahead with the Barton loan then this will be conclusive proof that he is and idiot.

He talks of getting in a creative midfielder and the goes for Barton - another midfielder who kicks people and can't pass. We already have 2 midfielders like this in Carsley and Johnson.

RoyalBlue34: Barton and Bowyer in the same team would be scary. But who would fancy playing against them?

I'm looking forward to the Villa game with relish.

Eric: Here go those fickle, mistrustful Blues fans again. "Lose my support" says one "fan" - boss is an "idiot" says another "fan". We have reformed other delinquents in the past so let's put some faith in McLeish. I would prefer Traore but I tend to agree with RoyalBlue - those two in midfield (if they can stay on the field) would be awsome.

Blue4Ever: My worry is who is it going to be scary for? I feel teams playing Blues would play to get one or both sent off and i`m not sure if any of them is smart enough to stay on the pitch for 90 minutes. Added to this Johnson has had a few early shows to his name.

Lets hope we get it right and not create troubles for ourselves.

Bluenosenorthwest: As a human being he's lower than a Rattlesnakes dangly-bit's.....IF he can control his obvious Phycopathic tendencies off the pitch as much as I dislike the geezer he's better than anything we have at BCFC at the moment.

If we are going to get him McLeish MUST read him the riot act and point out that under no circumstances are BCFC or it's supporter's going to accept any nonsence whatsoever.

Blueswatch: As a bluenose I avidly watch our pre season changes with unrivaled pleasure I checked todays pages to feel that ever present feeling of hope fading when BARTONS name popped up. Putting aside the training ground/changing room problems this slime ball will create. ahs anyone thought off what the Rob(Ican barley type his name)Styles gang of premier referies are going to do with us. I know we won a few with 10 men last season but come on Alex. no no no no no no no .........

Bluenose33:I am happy with all the work being done down the ground, and the signings so far, but if they sign Joey Barton, then this will only make me feel sick, I think we need more flair players now we are back in the Prem.

BlueDerem: I can remember telling my mates about Bowyers intended arrival to St Andrews last season and they laughed, "Barton next.." they said with glee. I suppose Bowyer did a reasonable job for the team but i think Barton would be a mistake. I have faith in McLeish, and i am happy with the signings so far, but Barton, although a better player than Bowyer, Carsley and Johnson, is from the same mold and not the creative midfield general we need.Yes, he and Bowyer would be feared to a certain degree, but a lot of managers and players will love it, as they are easy targets who wont get the backing from Premier Leauge referees.

B35ZuluBoy: Give barton a chance i say. sure he has done bad in the past but if he comes to birmingham then im sure he will do well for us and maybe calm down a bit so im just asking the blues fans to give him a chance if he comes and hey he mite even do well for us!

The army of player who haven't given anywhere near on the best on the pitch, when they've actually got near it are far more culpable than Joey Barton. The likes of Babayaro, Carr, Viduka, Owen and even Shola have more to answer for imo.

The first 3 made no effort, even as seasoned professionals to keep themselves in physical condition adequate for premiership football

If Barton is going anywhere then we shouldn't be paying any of his wages. Does anyone remember what happened to Leeds ffs? Madness, madness I tell you!

a-you are forgetting bartons s*** performances aswell

b- what does a player have to do before his talent is secondary to him being t***. sooner he's gone the better. buying him sold a bit of our soul. there is more to nufc than winning.

Hmm, its not far off.

Racial Aggravated assault

Attacking his own team mate on the field

At least Barton had the savvy to hide behind being an 'Alcoholic', Bowyer didn't have any excuse.

i saw the fight with dyer. a bit powder puff compared to knocking a team mate out then carrying on attacking him when unconcious or stubbing a cigar out in a colleagues eye.

Lee Bowyer who was caught on CCTV smashing up a Macdonalds, according to staff because he refused to be served by lets say, a man of asian descent.

Bowyer who according to his fiance broke off their engagement because she was one quarter indian. I think the exact words were 'there's something in you'

Bowyer who fought a teammate on the pitch (I partly enjoyed that one btw)

Bowyer arrested for assualt more than once

Bowyer who got sent off twice in successive seasons at Anfield, yet nobody seemed to care about that

Hang on... didn't he notice she was part-Indian until they were engaged or something? Lol blatant "scorned lass sells story for revenge" shenanigans tbf.

Which one's worse? Barton or Bowyer? There's only one way to find out. FIGHT!

That Barton to Birmingham story has been going around for the last week.

Today's Mail reckons he wants to stay and see what happens here first.

I'm sure he does want to stay (on his current contract). Will the manager when we get one want to keep him though? Surely the players who want to stay but the manager doesn't want would move for less money if it was made clear to them that they weren't wanted and would be in the reserves for a year?

If it's true that he'll be getting the same pay only paid by 2 clubs, then surely for him you'd have thought he'd go to Birminghm rather than stay here?

My main point was that if any player leaves I hope NUFC doesn't pay a penny of their wages at their new club.

I liked Bowyer a lot as a player but somehow all the racist dots seems to join up in his case

it could have been her love eggs?  or someone elses chopper?

Maybe it was a different kind of chopper, i.e. Michael Chopra's dad? Although hold on, that would make her half indian not quarter :icon_scratch:

I'm in the minority hoping that Barton will stay. We haven't seen him have a long run in the team, and when he has had a half decent run we have looked a better team. On the pitch, he doesn't give away half the fouls players like Smith and Nolan do, or at least it seems that way.

I can't help but feel that Shearer handled the Liverpool sending off badly, and acted without thinking properly. When you look at it, Barton's tackle was no worse than Nolans against Everton, or Guthrie's against Hull. He needs to learn to handle players differently - all top managers know that. I'm not saying talent wise that Barton is anywhere near, but do you think Ferguson dressed Cantona down in front of his team mates after the Palace kung fu kick?

We will never know what went on exactly, but I'm sure there was a way to punish Barton without finishing his career at Newcastle there on in. Even if Shearer had made his mind up that he didn't want him, effectively ending his career with NUFC so publically simply reduces the transfer fee you might achieve from him. If you at least pretend you want to keep him, you might get a better deal from the likes of Birmingham.

For starters, you certainly are in the minority wanting Barton to stay!

Secondly, you make a good point that Barton's tackle wasn't as bad as the Nolan or Guthrie tackles mentioned in isolation. The huge difference is that this was Barton's first game back, it was a crucial match and you can bet your bottom dollar that Shearer impressed upon him the importance of keeping control.

Which is the big point - when you really, really need your players to be professional, can you count on Barton? The answer is most certainly not...

Tbf he wasnt suspended for that tackle he was suspended for his confrontation with the manager. How far do you let it go? If you let barton square up to the gaffer and pay him no respect, then surely the rest of the squad will do the same. He overstepped the mark and was rightly suspended. No player is bigger than the club or the manager for that matter.

Dont forget the number of chances hes had at this and other clubs, the blokes a liability.

Barton is an absolute and utter cunt, who deserves fuck all more chances.

He has a long history of violent, antisocial and bullying behaviour.

The fact that he is also not particularly good is notrelevant, even if he was a quality player, he'd still not be worthplayin.

Some "fans" still support any team member despite the obvious facts. Exactly the kind of fans we don't need.
