The Profitable Group can confirm that it has expressed an initial interest in acquiring Newcastle United. A preliminary discussion with the representatives appointed to handle the sale of the club has been held but contrary to some reports no direct talks have been held with either the Owner, Mike Ashley, or the Chairman, Derek Lambias.

The Group consider the leaking of The Group's interest in this matter unfortunate, and as supporters of Newcastle United seek only to serve in the best interests of the cluib, the fans and the local community.

The Group will not be making any further comment at the present time.

If the proofreading of a simple statement is anything to go by, the Profitable Group is off to a roaring start.

Just like Ashley's email to David Craig.

One or two word mistakes are fine. It's when they turn out statements like:

"Following media reports this morning the chairman wishes to make it clear that Alan Shearer has never said to him that he would knock seven bells out of anyone."

that I'll start to worry

Btw Skirge, why were you asking to be banned for 46 hours? If it was two days you meant, then that's 48 hours.

No the last 2 hours would be a killer, 46 is all I could cope with.

it was a deliberate mistake :D

Sorry if this has been already covered but would there not be a conflict of interest in the Profitable Group owning NUFC since they already have something to do with Liverpool? Do they actually own shares in Liverpool? If so, would they be allowed to own or part own 2 clubs in the same country?

I think they've just been involved with promotion of Liverpool in the East before, like they were going to do with us.

Just spoken to someone who works at the club and its not good.

They will not appoint a manager until the week preceeding the first match of the season unless the club is sold

Most people have cleared their desks at the club and no-one knows if they will return

They reckon any decent bids for players will be accepted.

Half the stadium will be closed come our first home game

No planning of any kind is being undertaken, media/sponsrship deals already present will continue but no work is being done to generate revenue.

What a load of horse s***.

I just said what she told me, whether it's true remains to be seen,I don't post stuff like this unless it seems convincing, I have no reason not to believe her.

I hope its not true but would it surprise you?  Probably not, we'd all expect this, or something along these lines.

that would be alarming if true, though not exactly suprising. everything in the press is pointing to ashley having the club on lockdown, nowt happening until takeover business is complete, which could really fuck us up for the next season.

Five Live say formal contact has been made between Profitable and Seymour Pierce.

I will be absolutely shocked if these guys take us over. Just publicity seeking whores iyam.

As long as someone takes over I'm beyond caring. Anyone is going to be an improvement so it's not like we can be picky.

They'll not buy us though Tron, that's the whole point. They'll just piss around in the media making statements like wanting to bring the good times back and the fans deserve more, but they'll never actually place a bid. They just want a bit of free publicity, can't blame them, it's working, whothe fuck had heard of them before they werelinked with us the first time.

In any case, whether or not this lot are really going to take over or not it's good to see the ball getting rolling.

We need a swift resolution.

exactly.. its possible it might speed up the process and push the people actually interested into bidding.

Is Ashley trying to run us into the ground? Surely even he realises it makes no sense to just shut up shop, do fuck all, and if still not sold when the season starts worry about it then.

God he really is an arsehole.

Surely Ashley has a responsibility to keep the club functioning at a certain level otherwise he is really messing things up for the people buying the club.  If he sells players and there is no preparation for pre-season, that must lower the value of the club as it will leave the

new people with so much to do and a lot of immediate outlay.

Once a deal is agreed, will the new people still have the option to pull out?  That Portsmouth takeover is not due to be complete until the end of August (I think) and that has already been going on a while.

(If it is Shepherd, he will know whether Ashley has been shifting the assets out of the club.)

Thwe only responsibility Ashley has is to himself. For all we know he could have said fuck this I'm not going to bother a jot with this lot anymore. Write the club off as a tax break and move on.

He's rich enough and stupid enough to be able to do that unfortunately.

In fact that's looking increasingly likely, the only thing he'll do regarding NUFC now is to hand over the keys to anyone who'll give him a few quid to take it off his hands.

He's being an arsehole, but clearly doesn't give a toss, common sense would have you believe that he would put safeguards in to protect the club's valuation but he's simply not doing that, as every day goes by the value of the club drops.
