Why doesn't Ashley make a daily announcement as to what has been achieved in a twenty four hour period?

Because this thread would be 10,000 pages long and not 100.

I just wish fuckers would give it a rest.

Ananda behind Magpies bid

Sun, Jul 05, 2009

The New Straits Times

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Billionaire T. Ananda Krishnan has been identified by British newspapers as the man fronting a RM500 million bid for English Championship side Newcastle United.

Ananda is leading a Malaysian consortium of investors in talks to take over Newcastle owner Mike Ashley's stake in the club which was recently relegated from the English Premier League.

The Newcastle Shields Gazette newspaper reported yesterday that Ananda is favourite to take control after nearly meeting Ashley's drastically- reduced asking price of 100 million Pounds (S$236.9 million).

Although other consortia remain in the running to buy the relegated Magpies, including one fronted by former chairman Freddy Shepherd, the Malaysian tycoon is close to finalising a deal and an announcement could be made as early as next week.

The Gazette said Ananda is believed to be in favour of Alan Shearer being named as the Magpies' manager.

Shearer was in charge of Newcastle's final eight games of last season's Premier League but was unable to prevent the club's relegation to the Championship (second division).

On Thursday, a group of prominent Malaysian businessmen believed to be acting on Ananda's behalf was given a tour of St James' Park and the club's training facilities by Newcastle's managing director Derek Llambias.

The Malaysian consortium is said to have tabled a 95 million Pound bid for the troubled club.

A takeover will be effectively completed when a prospective buyer signs a sales and purchase agreement, and he can then get on with the business of appointing a manager and starting to reshape the playing squad.

If successful, Ananda will become the first Malaysian to own an English football club. -NST

Makes it sound very authoritative that it comes from an Asian news source, until you realise they've just read the Shields Gazette.

Another Malaysian newspaper report

July 04, 2009 23:03 PM

AirAsia Chief Denies Newcastle Purchase

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- AirAsia chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes has denied that the low-cost airline (LCC) is keen on buying English football club, Newcastle United.

Contacted by Bernama on the matter, Tony Fernandes said: "We are not either directly or indirectly part of the said Malaysian-led consortium intending to purchase Newcastle United. We deny any involvement whatsoever."

A report published today in a Malay daily, Harian Metro, said AirAsia had confirmed that it was in discussions to become the biggest shareholder of Newcastle United.

The daily had quoted an unnamed source within the airline as claiming Tony had an interest to buy a British soccer club.

The British media Friday reported that a Malaysian consortium led by several well-known businessmen had put in a 80m (RM456 million) bid to take control of Newcastle or 'The Magpies' from its owner Mike Ashley but they were bound by non-disclosure agreements.

Neil Farrington cosying up to Fat Fred ...again!

"And Shepherd’s bid to buy out Mike Ashley will be boosted by the news the Malaysian consortium linked with a Toon takeover are not now seen as serious contenders for the club."

Seems to me like this bloke will deliberately try to sabotage any takeover bid other than one by Shepherd.

He will always try to big up Fat Fred cos he is the one who is the "INSIDER" who leaks the news to the  Evening Chronicle,Journal,Sunday Sun and the papers get all the so called exclusives from him so its in there best interests to have him as owner imho.

Well it does appear that there definitely was a Malaysian delegation. The only question is who.

It's unlikely that this journo knows that they're not serious contenders, but at the same time doesn't know who they are.

Ultimately, it would be a shame if Freddie takes over, because it would only be because he's the one who wants it the most. It's down to fools going in where angels fear to tread, and there's no bigger fool than Freddie.

Stalling and laughing:

Sale could take four more weeks

News reaches us from a reliable source that Mike Ashley's parting shot could be to hold out until the start of the new season, in an attempt to squeeze a few more million out of the sale of Newcastle United.

With our first pre-season game less than a week away the club is still in total limbo, with no manager and a squad full of players, many of whom are likely to be leaving the club.

As our rivals do deals left, right and centre the club are missing out on new players with each day that passes, scuppering our chances of a Championship challenge.

History suggests that bouncing back at the first attempt is our best chance of returning to the Premier League and anything that hampers that could see us in the same boat as Leeds, Forest, Sheff Wed, Southampton, Norwich etc. etc.

Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse....

How would hanging on make Ashley more money? ???

The wages need paying and any buyer won't want to pay as much if they're buying a complete wreck with no time to do anything.

Just doesn't make sense.

If he holds onto the club for yer another month or so, surely that his going to cost him another £2million pounds or so in wages and the club will  depreciate  in value even more than it is at the moment.

Besides, NUFC.com changed their story about the Malaysian consortium more than once, who is too say that they wont change this story again..

Exactly what I thought, won't just be wages he will be shelling out for either and he won't be getting much income while we aren't playing.

Most stuff in the Sunday press is utter shit anyway, there was never going to any solid good news today. I reckon Thurday or Friday we will hear something solid, not a sale but decent news on progress.

Could he sell as many players as possible, not worrying about replacements, and use any money raised to pay back his "debt" to himself, while holding out for the same price ultimately?

Very worrying though. He obviously f***ed up previous attempts to sell, and might find that the buyers just walk away if they think they are being f***ed around.

he would have done it by now and i doubt any of the bidders would accept that

Not really, they aren't going to go "Oh well you have sold off £40m of assets (wishful calculating) but we will still give you the same price as before".

His best chance of getting a decent price is keeping these players, lets face it we won't get much for this squad!

He would have to lower the asking price then though, he is much better off selling it with a full squad.
