Fatwax
Like the transfer deadline really matters. As a championship club we can loan players outside of the official deadline date for an extended period and there's some half decent free agents still about that could do a job until the winter transfer window. Still very doubtful we'll get sold at all though.

jdckelly
ALAN SHEARER ON THE SOFA Would-be Newcastle boss resigned to TV work this term Image Flag By MARTIN HARDY, 30/08/2009 ALAN SHEARER is resigned to a season in the TV studios as Newcastle's takeover bid drags on. The Toon legend has waited all summer to get the nod as boss. But a source close to the player said: "The wait was getting him down. He has had to get on with his life. He will now crack on with the BBC." Would-be owner Barry Mort has gained more time to find the final £10million he needs to take over. The club's overdraft has been halved to £20m following a series of big-name sales with Fabricio Coloccini lined up for a £3m switch to Fenerbahce. The wage bill will be slashed to £30m if the £70,000-a-week defender agrees a move to Turkey. notws latest so working off my usual logic when it comes to notw expect him in by tuesday morning
ChezGiven
Ashley staying, isn't he? If Shearer comes in after Sep 1st, he can't sell Barton, so Ashley isn't arsed rushing anything through. Imo.
Guest Phil K
Glenn Roeder isn't on MOTD either, therefore he must be getting appointed tomorrow Shearer works on MOTD - there's a clue there for you somewhere.....

mouldy_uk
US Toon bidders close on a deal http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle-utd/newcastle-utd-news/2009/08/30/us-toon-bidders-close-on-a-deal-79310-24563178/ AN American group are closing in on a deal for Newcastle United. And a deal which would put the Magpies in US hands does not have to be completed ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline. The men behind the transatlantic takeover bid have now held positive talks with both Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and Seymour Pierce, the investment bank appointed to broker a deal. And they have also made contact with Alan Shearer to assure him that he will be offered the United manager’s job if they assume control of the club. The Americans – whose interest in an approach for Newcastle – was revealed by the Sunday Sun a fortnight ago – are now viewed as a more viable bidder than Barry Moat, despite the Geordie businessman being the only interested party to be named by United and having been given a one-week deadline to secure Barclays bank’s backing for his takeover plans. The only person publicly associated with the Americans’ approach for Newcastle has been Geoff Sheard. But sources have played down the level of the Lancashire-based Sheard’s involvement in any actual bid. A source close to the American consortium said last night: “This bid is both serious and very credible. “The difference between this group’s approach and the other bids that have been made is that the money is there to buy the club if all parties can agree on other financial aspects like the club’s overdraft, which is £39 million. “In an ideal world, this consortium would have liked a deal to be done before the transfer window closed but they are serious about buying the club and won’t rush things. “Talks have begun and are ongoing, and the original asking price quoted by Mike Ashley of £100 million shouldn’t be an issue. “But these things do take time and because of all the other delays and disappointments, the Americans have to play things quite close to their chests. “While the Americans – who have a strong background in professional sports management – want Shearer as manager, Chris Hughton has done enough as United’s caretaker boss to be guaranteed a senior coaching job within the proposed new regime. Ashley17
There will be no "proper" deals done in a hurry, Ashley clearly only wants loans and frees and he can get them afer Tuesday. Unless we get taken over deadline day is going to be a very quiet one.
JH
In England, clubs from the Football League Championship to the Football Conference can loan in players from 8 September to 23 November. No relevance, just a random piece of trivia for anyone who didn't know about loaning outside the window.
Ketsbaia
Well firstly, as long as nobody else leaves (except Geremi) then we're only a few loans/freebies from being good enough. But if someone decides Colo/Jonas has to go then yes, we'd have to make money signings - thats where the panic comes in. A good deadline day will be making sure nobody else leaves, and any signings are a bonus. Still can't believe that we've not spent a penny this summer considering our past reputation. oldtype
This has nothing to do with the takeover, but since this thread is already uselessly long and utterly lacking in substance anyway.... I was rick-rolled in a cab tonight. Damn song started playing literally the second I opened the door and jumped in. Being drunk, I froze for about five seconds fumbling for Ctrl+Alt+Del on a non-existent keyboard. That is all.
