The England Thread

Cascarino made the simple point that if you play with a lone striker, you cant play long balls. The system depends on getting support up to the striker, and that means the ball has to be kept on the deck. In the first half, we had a midfield that wasnt capable of doing that.

How about the normal 3 in Chelsea's midfield, Essien Obi and Lampard.

Or maybe Arsenal's preferred three of Fabregas Nasri and Diaby. Or maybe Song.

A left footer in there is fine, but not essential and not necessarily beneficial, given you're likely playing a lesser player to accommodate the needless wish for a left footed centre mid.

I was just about to post the exact same thing. If your midfielders are good, than their footedness doesn't matter at all. Especially if there are three.

Sadly, ours aren't good enough. They are nowhere near as good as the Spanish, French, Germans, Argentinians, Dutch, Brazilians etc etc.

So how would they be any better if 1 of them was left footed

You've created possibly the worst argument i've ever read, and are clearly taking the "left-sided" part of "left-sided central midfielder" with far too much relevance.

Right this is my last attempt at creating a serious thread.

What shall  we do with the future of the england squad. Who should be called up,who would you like to be manager etc?

Also list players you would like to be playing in the team

                            Hart

Richards      Dawson  Ferdinand  Cole

Walcott      Nolan      Gerrard    Johnson

                  Carroll    Bent

Oh and manager? Chris Hughton. No just joking. Either Jose Mourinho or Harry Redknapp.

From now on I'd go with:

              Hart

Richards Ferdinand Cahill  Cole

Lennon Wilshere  Gerrard  Johnson

            Rooney  Carroll

Foster & Loach

G.Johnson, Jagielka, Baines, Shawcross, Gibbs, Smalling,

Young, Milner, Rodwell, Albrighton, Huddlestone, McEachran

Bent, Defoe, Walcott, Wellbeck

Ferdinand and Cole are the only 30+ players worth sticking with IMO. We've got a fairly easy group so use it to blood the new younger players, same with friendlies.

Never to darken the doors of the England squad again:

Terry

Lampard

Rooney

Ferdinand

Beckham

Gerrard

Glenn Johnson

Cole

Heskey

Why you ask?  All you have to do is watch the WC to see why none of these players are fit to wear the shirt.  Ever again.

Rooney has been utterly shit for England since Euro 2004 barring about three games. He's clearly not one to be consigned the international scrapheap, but people must admit that his inclusion is entirely upon reputation at the moment.

Beckham not fit to wear the shirt  He's not worthy of a place anymore but Beckham has put England on his back and carried them to a win on countless occasions. Rooney, well that's just daft, brilliant player that had fuck all support in the World Cup. Terry and Rio are in decline but who else, apart from Cahill, do England have that is any better? Lampard and Gerrard are still good enough to have a place in the squad, but its questionable at best whether they should be starting. Gerrard has the edge over Lampard. The rest, yes I agree.

I'd pick

                    Hart

Simpson  Terry  Cahill    Cole

Lennon Wilshere Barton Johnson

            Carroll    Rooney

Bench

Foster

Rio

Lescott

Walcott

Gerrard

Lampard

Bent

Dependent on current form it should be something like this:

Hart

Simpson Terry[?] Ferdinand Cole

Barton Wilshere Gerrard

Walcott                    Johnson

Carroll

Forcing players like Rooney and Lampard who haven't produced in ages to put a shift in if they want to be picked; as the team is at the minute I've nil interest in it at all.
