Cajun
Hmm this creates more wonderings about an imminent takeover.
Dave
£10m. Fucking hell, I can't get over that. That's a huge bid, and we've had the balls to reject it. Brave move.

Would "take what he can get" Ashley turn down an offer if its still his decision?

captainhaircut
Could it be that Spurs are wanting to pay the fee over 5 years or something like that and at this time Ashley wants it all up front?

Fenham Mag
Reject? but why?? We don't need the money when we have a owner worth £40 billion [/thomo]
Guest cf_newc
Hmm this creates more wonderings about an imminent takeover. hmmm..does imply somebody wants to keep him (hopefully prospective new owners). Judging by ashley and co's past dealing such as Given i would have expected we would have just bent over and taken it. Maybe a new transfer embargo's back in place. Wullie
Pity Ashley wasn't so keen on keeping our best players when it mattered.
Dave
Bassong will be kicking off big style about this btw, so I wouldn't get your hopes up about him staying.

I'm just getting my hopes up that SOMETHING is about to happen. We might be just hoping there is truth in City being interested. Agree it's promising though. Fingers crossed. James
I reckon Shearer is now calling the shots in the transfer market.
joeyt
From a Sunderland fan on a different forum: They've come into some money because someone I know that is usually ITK tells me that they've got until midnight tonight to accept our offer of £12m plus a future £2m through add ons for Darren Bent. LucaAltieri
Whether the bid being rejected is Ashley's doing or a sign of a takeover, I can only applaud whoever is responsible.

TRon
From Spurs POV £10m on a young defender whose 1st season has been outstanding in the Premier is not a bad deal when you consider the price for Lescott is £18-20m. While it might look like a good deal for us, it's only becaus we're a pathetic club which has been relegated.

This was my immediate thought That seems the most likely scenario to me as well. More likely than the thought that someone is close enough to buying the clubs that he can already be calling the shots anyway...
