Yeah i would expect if we are able to entice Debuchy and Mbiwa/Douglas to join in the summer you would see Krul pass the ball out from the back a lot more than he has done this season. The 24-year-old is part of the Dutch squad at Euro 2012, where he is understudy to Maarten Stekelenburg, but he has been questioned about his future. A season of top-class performances have prompted talk of bids from Chelsea and Tottenham. Newcastle are well aware of the talent at their disposal and recently tied Krul to a five-year deal. It is a decision Krul does not regret as he sees a long-term future with the Magpies. "It's all just talk," Krul said. "I've signed my five-year contract and I'm committed to Newcastle United. The Magpies looked vulnerable in their first season back in the big time during 2010-11, but gradually Pardew has helped build up Newcastle’s reputation as a hard to beat outfit. Only Manchester City and Manchester United had more shutouts than Newcastle last term with their defensive solidity helping to earn a fifth-place finish in the Premier League. Krul, who was one of Newcastle’s star performers last season, will start the season as Pardew’s number 1 and believes that Pardew has turned things around defensively since his appointment in December 2010. Now the big Dutchman feels that with a solid platform to work from in games – couple with the likes of lethal marksman like Papiss Cisse – the Magpies can only build on their outstanding achievements in the last campaign. The Holland international told the Chronicle: “From the moment the manager stepped in he has been working with the defence. “We have defensive reports now before every game. “He’s just kept hammering that home. If we keep clean sheets now, we have players who can make the difference and can win us games. “It’s not just the back four but also people like Yohan Cabaye in there and we are capable of beating anybody.” Newcastle will return for pre-season training in just 15 days time with a hectic start to the season in prospect. They face their season opener against Tottenham Hotspur on August 18 before a trip to Chelsea a week later. However, United will also take on European opposition in between their battles with the London clubs as they prepare for the first leg of their Europa League play-off game. Of course the first continental campaign on Tyneside for six years is eagerly anticipated by fans and players alike. Yet Krul knows that the entire squad will be rotated as they bid to cope with the intensity of both competitions. He said: “It’s not one person here, it’s a proper team effort. “You go from Danny Simpson, who has been immense at right-back to Davide Santon to Perchy to Willo to Coloccini, everybody chips in – even the lads who haven’t started most of the games. “You can’t do it with just 11 players – especially next year. You need to do it with a big squad.” The Magpies ended their last campaign with their best finish since 2004 under the guidance of the great, late Sir Bobby Robson. The scenes at the end of the season though could not have been predicted by the majority of the game’s observers according to Krul. He said: “To finish fifth is incredible. Everybody has to remember where we were not so long ago. Yes in the games we got humped, we got humped good and proper but you can find reasons in there for those debacles (personnel out of position, thrown in at the deep end etc) In the majority of games we were excellent though. Take away those aberrations and we conceded 33 in 34, which is very good. Like some other posters have said when we have a bad day the roof really seems to cave in on us, hell against Fulham and Wigan all the opposition's goals came in one half. Mental. We'll be looking to address those problems this season no doubt, but on the whole the defence is very good. I'll have even more confidence when Taylor comes back and we get someone else in so we don't have to rely on Williamson who, despite being likeable, is ultimately a liability. Wigan in particular we just seemed to forget that work ethic that we'd displayed most of the season, the forwards weren't doing the necessary running and even the likes of Tiote were just walking around the pitch, horrible to see when you've become used to such a hard-working team ethos.
