He was fantastic today, until Abeid hung him out to dry. I don't put that one on Krul at all.

Really? It was shocking by Abeid I'll admit but Krul has to just put his foot through it instead of slicing it 6 yards.

Look I know Abeid is the forum's golden boy at the moment, though why I'll never understand, but you can't expect much from a keeper when the ball is fired into his feet, completely by surprise, with strikers bearing down like that. Would it have been nice if Krul pulled off a better clearance to absolve Mehdi of his atrocious mistake? f*** yeah. But it's certainly not a given, and Krul's mistake was bred out of Mehdi's colossal f***up. Not to mention that he made 3 or 4 top notch saves to keep us in the game through 87 minutes of pure s*** ahead of him.

This one is on Abeid, no doubt about it. Put it out for a f***ing corner instead of testing Krul's first touch and kicking ability by f***ing surprise.

I'm not absolving Abeid of the blame at all, it was a completely moronic thing to do but what I gathered from your first statement was that none of the blame can go on Krul which I disagree with, he should still just be able to put his foot through the ball and get it clear. It's just such a frustrating goal to concede when there were 3 or 4 mistakes from us within the space of 5 seconds.

I'll give krul like 10 or 15% of the blame, but that's as high as I'll go.

Look at it this way, if someone throws a brick at you, and it knocks your face off, is it your fault for not dodging the brick? Kiiiind of, but not really.

Abeid was off balance and played a suicide ball back, that part was undoubtedly his fault and hopefully next time he'll just get rid of it instead of trying to find a man.  Krul though, being a Premiership footballer, should be able to put any foot through a ball in those situations. Defenders do it week in week out across the league.

I'm actually blaming Andy Woodman, the fat greasy mess.

When Mike conceded one of those on FIFA we all pointed the finger at him, seems only fair Krul has to be held somewhat accountable as well.

A professional footballer should be able to kick a ball with either foot ffs. Krul's kicking overall is just shambles but all things considered he had a good game yesterday. That said Abeid didn't do him any favors.

I agree with that, but his kicking is epidemically poor and for some reason it never improves.

The reason might have something to do with our goalkeeping coach being a fatter, balder Terry Mac.

His poor kicking is catching? Soon every 'keeper in the PL will have it.

His goalkeeping abilities have been receding since that legendary season when we came fith. Back then he was quite good at catching crossed and corners and dominating his box better. Now he tends to be frozen on his line or he is an accident waiting to happen when he tries to come out for the ball. He's still a decent shot stopper despite that last blunder. People were talking about him being close to world class before, right now I don't think he's anywhere near.

Makes me wonder what kind of "coaching" Woodman is doing to our goalkeepers. None of them can kick a ball properly to save their lives and none of them look very confident in catching crosses and corners. Is he only focusing on shot stopping and completely ignores all the other parts of goalkeeping?

Nice edit. You're wrong, of course.

f***ing Woodman, fished up from League One by his mate.

Should an international goalkeeper need a specialised coach to do the basics?

No but being coached by amateurs surely doesn't help. Regardless of the reasons he's crap now like everyone else.

Lack of competent competition has to be a factor - all he has to do to keep his place is be better than Elliot and Alnwick ffs.

You can throw in all the excuses you want really, his regression is down to no one but himself in the end IMO. Yes, Woodman is a shite coach and yes he's been way too comfortable, but he is still close to being an international starter for one of the best teams on the planet, that she be motivation enough to stay at your best and not jump away from shots.
