Lack of competent competition has to be a factor - all he has to do to keep his place is be better than Elliot and Alnwick ffs.

You can throw in all the excuses you want really, his regression is down to no one but himself in the end IMO. Yes, Woodman is a shite coach and yes he's been way too comfortable, but he is still close to being an international starter for one of the best teams on the planet, that she be motivation enough to stay at your best and not jump away from shots.

I think you're underestimating the effect a coach has on a sports person tbh.

Agreed. He probably only has to give 80% in training to look ace. I guarantee we sign a proper back-up GK his form would improve tenfold. It's human nature.

The kicking would still be awful mind but now his shot stopping is poor. The amount of times he puts balls straight back into play rather than off to the side is crazy. Also basically stopped coming for crosses. For his sake he needs to leave to better himself.

There's no doubt the lad's talented, which makes his awful season all the more frustrating. I think a move away would benefit him immensely. Needs to get away from our awful coaches and the whole 'let's do the bare minimum' culture.

Aye, it's bringing him down. Of course he's part of it and deserves stick for poor performances but he's in an environment that's just letting him coast. We'll not sign anyone better than him or even close, he'll have no reason to improve. And he isn't one of those lads that rises above his station which is disappointing.

I think it's more our culture of bare-minimum than poor coaching. The crap coaching however is a symptom of our culturally/systemic problem. Exact same coaching set-up under Keegan and SJH and Tim would be a much better GK because more would be demanded.

A lot of people massively over-rating the impact an individual coach can have on a mid 20's footballer.

f***ing Woodman, fished up from League One by his mate.

Should an international goalkeeper need a specialised coach to do the basics?

No, his loss of international inclusion draws suspicion to how the club has nurtured his talent though.

It wouldn't surprise me if the League One manager's mate from League One didn't help his cause.

Seems primed for next January imo. 6 months of Darlow "knocking on the door" and we'll begrudgingly let the money-grabbing mercenary cunt to sign for a massive club like Everton.

Anyone with hands is arguably in better form than Tim Howard at the moment.

Yep and Everton is the type of destination he'll end up at. Or Italy.

He's got worse because unless he wants a move he has little reason to improve.

Aye and he seems happy to stay here. So we'll do him like Davide.

Sounds about right.

Mole and AlanSkärare, all goalkeeping coaches seem to have had something between utterly shit and largely underwhelming careers. I understand the need for them at youth/reserve level but at 26 with the career he's had, Krul should've have forgotten more than Woodman ever knew.

I agree overall that Woodman's a joke, though. Ironically the bloke likes to hunt in his spare time, so in additional to coaching defenceless animals.....

I agree with that, but his kicking is epidemically poor and for some reason it never improves.

His poor kicking is catching? Soon every 'keeper in the PL will have it.

This is [the] type of post that makes me wish the Internet was never invented. Just monstrous levels of vocabulary abuse.

Nice edit. You're wrong, of course.

An edit to your grammar that I initially missed, in addition to the mangled vocab error, which I did not.

If the name of the game is to insert nonsensical adjectives into posts, as you did with 'epidemically' (!), then I am happy to be wrong. At least I don't look like a prat, though.

Not sure about that like.  A few weeks with the Dutch national teams coaches and he became a super penalty saving specialist.  Comes back to us and a few months later he's diving out of the way of shots.

Working with better outfield players/keepers/general coaches and under pressure to perform in a highly scrutinized pressure environment sounds far more conducive to his form than our mess of a club, I guess.

The simple fact is that Forster has officially overtaken him in terms of quality as of now.

I believe that shit GK and the fact that his number 1 position is secure no matter what have been the cause of his decline because the only game I remember him being great in is Tottenham. Since then it's just been sloppy.

Almost bought a framed picture of St James' Park when I went to the derby in 2005. It was too large to carry on the plane though unfortunately. Wish I had gotten it, would have been nice to have a framed picture of our stadium before it all went to hell.
