A hell of a player considering the position we're in. He's a very good prospect for the future and a player i love to see on the teamsheet.

i'd take all of the 5 WBA midfielders that played tonight for my team before i picked Guthrie.

actually no, i would have him before Mulumbu but the likes of Koren and Dorrans are much better.

I wish we'd try him on the left and Jonas on the right by the way.

The reason for this is that he cuts inside so much (something I don't mind by the way, it could even be intentional from Hughton to give Nolan and Smith some help, though I doubt he's that clever), leaving the wing empty. In Simpson, or from now, Ryan Taylor, we don't have a full back who can handle that on the right hand side, which was very evident today, the way West Brom kept attacking us down the right. However, on the left, we've got arguably the best player in this league in Enrique, who has time and again taken the piss out of wingers, and could probably handle a wing on his own, at least a lot better than I'd have faith in Taylor or Simpson doing the same.

His natural position isn't on the right, he spends more time away from the right than he does on it.  If it was his natural position he wouldn't spend so much time away from it.

He has been out on the right for most of the games & the goals he has created have been from out wide i.e Boro, Sheff Wed, Peterborough, Doncaster etc. I am struggling (not taking the piss either) of goals he has created from the middle where you say he  he spends most of his time.

He does make goals from the right but he seems to spend most of his time away from the right, I might time him against Palace to see if I'm wrong.

The player we should put in the middle with Smith is Barton, when he returns. He is 3 times more creative than Guthrie, who is just an average championship player, in my opinion. As people have said on here, he is NOT a 90 minute player and seems to lack strength and agression.

Also, where was he when two WBA players burst down the left in the first minute of the second half to create the second goal. Lagging behind and puffing his heart out to keep up.

He might have all the skill in the world, but a lack of fitness, pace and aggression in his game proves to me that Guthrie is not up to the task, either centrally or out wide.

Good free kick though but it wasbasically all he did.

He does drift into the middle too much, but tonight he absolutely had to because Smith & Nolan were so poor and ineffective.

which left simpson completly exposed against their most effective player.

guthrie got it badly wrong tonight as even when he drifted into the middle he done nothing.

No. All of that means Hughton got it badly wrong.

The lad must be totally pissed off.  He's been played out of position for best part of two seasons with right backs behind him with very little steel about them.  There have been some ideal opportunities against some of the pish teams to give him a go in the centre, but it is easier not to have to make the decision.

what else did hughton have to offer down the right? pancrate has showed nothing baring pace now and again and that goal, ryan taylor offers only his "dead-ball Specialist skills" guthrie may be out of position with a tendancy to come inside far too often, leave the right back open, and not offer THAT much going forward, but hes much better than any alternative in my opinion. would love to see him play in the centre as people suggest, but without an adequate back up, playing him at right mid makes sence.

guthrie can't think for himself ? did he need to be told to help simpson out ? come off it......we done that when playing schoolboy football.

has he....whats his position ? played wide often enough for bolton and often enough for us. what makes you think centre mid is "his true position" ?
