cash moves for matt kilgallon, craig cathcart, williamson and jordan stewart all collapsed according to the chron.

No big surprise really, failing to attract players in the transfer window is par for the course under Ashley, even when we are aiming for unknown players and sitting at the top of the table we aren't an attractive proposition. FFS, Jordan Stewart preferred to move to Sheffield Utd, that's how poor our negotiating position has become under Fatso.

Why ever would you want Jordan Stewart, when you already have Enrique + like Kadar/Tozer for back up?

According to Sky Sports website, Kilgallon's contract runs out next year so i'm surprised they didn't sell him now (in a Krancjar frame of mind).

According to the Chronicle, we pulled out of the deal.

According to experience we never were in the deal

Middlesbrough have brought in around £22m this summer from the sales of Stewart Downing, Robert Huth and Tuncay Sanli and more will be recouped if Afonso Alves completes his transfer to Al Saad before the Qatari transfer deadline later this month. To date, they have signed only Mark Yeates, Danny Coyne and Leroy Lita, although Lamb stated that others, either on free transfers or loans, will arrive.

“It was frustrating that we weren't able to deliver on some of the manager's targets, mainly due to the reluctance of other clubs to release their prize assets,” he said “We were very close to doing a number of permanent deals but we simply ran out of time before the transfer window closed.

Sounds familiar doesn't it? Amazing how clubs such as ours have all summer to recruit and then just run out of time to conclude the deals at the last minute.

Not worth a new thread but found this interesting.

Never ever knew that.

He briefly joined the Italian side A.C. Milan in 1961, after reportedly turning down a huge offer from Newcastle United and scored 9 goals in 12 games but failure to settle led to a quick departure. Bill Nicholson then signed him for Tottenham Hotspur for £99,999. The unusual fee was intended to relieve Greaves of the pressure of being the first £100,000 player.

Manchester United youngster Craig Cathcart is set for a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

The defender has been sent back to Old Trafford from international duty in order to receive treatment on the ailment.

Cathcart, who spent last season on loan at Plymouth, suffered the setback while turning out for Northern Ireland U21s.

He was unable to prevent his country from slipping to a 2-0 European Championship qualifying defeat against Czech Republic and has now been laid low with injury.

The problem wraps up a disappointing week for the 20-year-old, who saw a move to Newcastle break down at the last minute prior to Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Cathcart will now sit out Northern Ireland's next qualifier against Iceland on Tuesday, as will Blackburn defender Johnny Flynn, who has a knee problem.
